Boo to Serena for crap gamesmanship

Up until tonight I was a Serena supporter, but after her cruddy handling of the blister situation (waiting until after the 90 second changeover to call the trainer), her stopping the middle of a point (how was that even legal?), and then her intentional delays of game while returning serve, she has lost favor with me. That was crappy fellowship, and to think how classy Kim handled herself and how nice she was in greeting Serena at the net. That is a true lady.

Oh boy here we go.

kim needs to start really being a mean bitch like Jennifer Capriati. She is too nice at the end and got nervous. It was amazing how she just stopped making serves and began pushing the ball. A big scream or a fit of anger would have been helpful. That's what Capriati did to come back against Martina last year. This loss today is ALMOST as painful as Martina's last year.

please someone remind didn't Kim break Serena after the Injury timeout? But somehow that played a part in her losing ok? She choked as one of the commentators said everybody chokes one time or another. Serena cetainly has in her past. Get over it. I really believe when you say you *were* a fan of Serena's.

spyro - were you watching the point Serena intentionally stopped? or the injury timeout called as the changeover ended? How is that OK?

Rocketta - when did I say it played a part in Kim losing?? Oh yeah, I DIDN'T!! I was only commenting on Serena's gamesmanship. As a person, Serena blows...

Serena stopped because she thought her ball was going out. She was surprised when it dropped in. It was a silly thing to do but I've seen it happen plenty of times. The problem is Kim stopped which you should never do no matter what your opponent does. You play the ball until you get an out call.
I do think Serena was trying to slow the match down though by calling the trainer which is gamesmanship but unfortunately, extremely common. Of course I am still a fan of Serena. If she wanted to, she could have taken bathroom breaks etc. to really use gamesmanship.

PS That blister on her foot was sooooooo nasty. It looked pretty painful....being on the ball of her foot and all. And that sucker was huuuge!!

Midnite - why was that point stopped, though? Kim kept playing until the umpire stopped the point by calling a "let" because Serena yelled something...

Did you see the huge blisters on the bottom of foot! Why should she play with pain, when she's allowed an injury time out! IT's the RULES!! Anyway, the injury time out did not make Kim lose, it was taken at 1-2 Kim, she then wen't ahead to win 3 straight games to go up 1-5 Kim. So that would mean, the injury time out helped Kim more then Serena.

This is total bullshit. Kim should have been mentally tough to pull this match out. Come on, she was up 5-1. Whether or not it was gamesmanship or not, when you have a lead like that, you close it out regardless. She couldn't and though she played better than Serena, she deserved to lose.

Serena won that match fair and square. Take your frustration out on Kim, that was her match to Win, but she lost it.

there are just negative people, and i can't see how someone would've called it gamesmanship, take it the fact you saw the blisters! what was serena supposed to do just play on that big ass thing? she did play on it, but if you are a 2 year old baby and haven't had a blister you would undersatnd. when a blister is broken and opend up, it hurts like a bitch, i give serena all credit, and it wasn't her fault for the second injury timeout, the trainer saw it, and she called for the second!

DO YOU PEOPLE READ??

When did I ever say Kim lost because of Serena's crap behavior?? I *never* said that, actually.

Additionally, I *never* said Serena didn't have blisters OR that she should not have taken a timeout. I was criticizing her waiting to take the timeout until after the changeover had passed!! She sat there for a 90 second changeover, and *then* took the timeout. HUH??

You're right the umpire did call a let, but it was actually because of the crowd not Serena's outburst. Some guys in the crowd started cheering for Kim because they thought Serena's ball was going out. If it had been Serena's fault then they would have awarded the point to Kim. My mistake. Regardless, jenglisbe Kim was 5-1. HSe should have closed the match out. It was sort of ridiculous that she didn't. She double faulted her way out of the match. So you really can't blame Serena for that at all.

No you are not blaming Serena outright, but it seems as though you are giving too much weight to an injury timeout and a let point.
