Guys, you can't reason with a hater. Face it some people dislike venus and serena so much that they will do or say anything to attack them.

Today during a point against Nicole Pratt, Venus was scrambling for a shot Nicole hit right in the far corner, as she dived and got a racquet to the ball her hat fell off. Venus shot went out but the umpire incorrectly ruled to replay the point as Venus' hat fell off. Both players know the rules and the point was rightly Pratt's. Had Pratt called the referee to come out Peter Bellinger would have been able to overrule the umpire and give the point to Nicole over the technicality.

I just think it was incredibly poor of Venus not to approach the umpire and give the point to Nicole. The whole crowd and commentators thought the same. The Williams Sisters dominate tennis enough, they dont need to cheat!! And sure Nicole was certainly giving Venus a very hard time and it was a tough match for her but that doesnt excuse it.

And to cap it off Venus was interviewed on court after the match and the commentator was asking her about the match expecting her to say that Nicole played great and really took it too her instead though their was no nice things at all to say about Nicole. In her post match interview though she was a little more complimentary.
Got to be the dumbest thing I've heard. So Vee should stand up for Nicole when Nicole won't stand up for herself? If she felt she should have been given the point then why didn't she speak up, it was within her rights to do so? Why are people always looking for something to complain about, and to call her a cheat because she didn't give the point back is ludicrious. Weren't the umps watching?

Pratt said beforehand that although she could not compete with Williams for power, she believed she had a better mind, and could trouble the four-time major winner. So she did, by sticking with what she does best. "I think I matched it on the ground with her, and, for me, that's really encouraging for the steps that I want to take forward," said Pratt, acknowledging that the Williams serve often saved the American at vital moments.

So, Pratt thinks she has a better MIND than Venus; if we are to believe this article. Let me just say, I didn't know Pratt did Comedy on the side. (LOL)

All I have to say is you have no idea what Venus is thinking or if she really understood what happen, so don't judge her. Maybe Venus couldn't remember what happenned first, the fact that the chair umpire called the let before she hit the ball or after.

Besides, at last year's US Open, Chang clearly hit a passing shot winner, but his hat came off. The umpire called a let, but how come the other opponent didn't say something as to the effect that he hit the winner anyway??

Please, this is just so trivial to complain about one point in the match. And I don't understand how you can hate a person because they didn't talk to the chair umpire to give someone else a point. You say Venus knows the rule, but maybe she wasn't so definitive on how this situation works.

You would be surprised at the number of Australians who think they have better minds than "people of colour"
There is an Australian cricketer who was suspended from World Cup cricket last week for making similar racist comments against a Sri Lanka cricketer.

Venus should have had a "second" serve coming.
Venus questioned the call to no avail, then continued and won the match. I have this on tape and it is clear that the chair made a mistake. Pratt SHOULD have challenged if she thought there was an error, but she might have had as little luck as Venus did.
You know I totally remember that. I know a lot others did too. Venus said something to the umpire, but to no avail, and Venus just walked away and continued to play.

Just a little note: The point after the first hatfalling of incident, Pratt served a not particularly great serve and Venus hit it way out .... maybe she was being kind giving pratt the point Either way it wasnt like these points mattered ... they replayed the points and I know the first was at 0-30 on Pratt serve, and it ended up 15-30 anyway.

Both players were gracious during their post match interviews. Pratt was not bitter at all. She played a great match against the world #2. Dingo Boy, take your frustration on someone else, Venus did absolutely nothing to warrant your bitterness. But than again, Venus and Serena really don't have to do anything to warrant such hatred from the likes of you, do they?

What the fuck would tennis be about if we didin't have drama. now what you should do after this post, is post a thread on every single player in the wta and atp that has done this. when you get done w/ doing that, and realizing how much of a dumb ass (and as they call them here on this board anti-williams) you post a thread of apology if you have the balls to do so. you must be completely ignorant (thus the name ausboy ) boy's are very imature, even young adult males act ignorant. so really it is expected from you. but when you want to question something, or someone, you make sure you have something to back your alligator mouth up w/. You really didn't have anyreason to single out venus or serena. you know how many times the chair has overruled points at this australian open. you look that up as well, and you tell me the total. you may just be ignoring everything i say, and by the tyme you get to the bottom of my message to you, you might have forgotten everything i touched on, so if you get this far, you don't have to scroll up to re-read something, i will double this message for you, you sound like you may have ADD or one of those syndromes...

HERE IT IS AGAIN SO YOU CAN REVIEW SOME OF MY POINTERS...

there was really no drama in this match, the media just made out.
Venus played the point, did not argue with the umpire
and continued to win the match graciously.

Tell me where the fault ior drama is in that?

I taped the match as I have followed Nicole's career since she was 15, so it's a big deal for me for her to be in the 4th round.

After the match, on-court commentator Craig Willis asked Venus:

Q - Were you under a bit of pressure today?

Venus: Sure, I knew Nicole's a great player and she was doing very well in the tournament, but I was hoping to play well and reach the qtr-finals.

Venus was asked two other questions, unrelated to the match, so she did take her opportunity to praise Nicole

I know many of you are upset with this thread but please don't rag on Nicole in the process. I've never heard her be derogatory to any fellow players and it's great she thinks she can get better even at the age of 29.
Nicole was not 'quoted' as saying she had a better mind, the author 'inferred' it in the article. Yes... Nicole could've very well have said it and it wasn't put in quotation marks, but I'm sure she wasn't being insulting to Venus.

Linda Pearce is one of the few journalists in Australia who actually tries to find the positives in Australian women's tennis over the years, instead of making fun of them. Therefore explaining the pro-Pratt article after her competitive match with Venus.

There's more to life than just being happy.
