Venus vs Anca

Looks like Venus is finding her rhythm, her first serve % was good last match. What about Anca, what are her weapons and how will she trouble Vee??

Anca Barna is a lefty baseliner with a slender build and a standard two-handed backhand. Although her forehand can be deceiving at times, she does not have a major arsenal at her disposal. She mostly relies on her retrieving game, and usually stays quite low in regard to both winners and unforced errors.

Anca lost the first set to Schiavone in R1, but bounced back to win the next two 6-1, 6-3. Even more convincingly, she upset Lisa Raymond (27) 6-3, 6-1 in the 2nd Round.

She has never played Venus, but has stretched Serena to three sets on the two occasions they met (US Open 2001, Leipzig 2002).

Her current singles rank is 69, and she is the reigning German Champ.

Then it sounds like a routine job for Venus.

I agree that Venus will win this match. It does make me nervous that she hasn't played her before.

Well, if Venus is on, there won't be much Anca can do.

But if Venus is off, Anca will certainly be annoying. She runs and fights a lot, she plays topspin-forehands and backhand-slices, she volleys OK, a good lefty serve.

I'm optimistic that Anca will do well.

Not really. Anca's serve gives her opposition no groove at all....heavy slice lefty serve...also quite powerful at times... I like her game style.

I think venus is more found of the slic than she is of the kicker. and by the way, it may have heavy slice but does it have any punch to it? nope. and it will get ate up by venus!

i like ANCAs way of playing tennis and i think she can push VENUS to the limits, at least in one set. i think this could be a good match to watch it, but VENUS-fans shouldn't be sorrowed.

my other signature is funny.

I think that Venus will win the match, and if she played liked she played the other day, no one has a chance. I'm glad that the lower rank players are giving it to the top ranks, because it dispells the theory that Jim Courier says and that is that there is no depth in the womens tennis game until next week. I think tough matches will help Venus, Serena, and Lindsey in the second week. Come on Venus and do your thing.

Venus will have her hands full. If she isn't serving well/making too many errors, I can guarantee that the match will go into a 3 setter. Lets go ANCA
