Re: Road to Melbourne 2015

Let's see what Mona can do in Australia this year. I don't know really what to expect from her after the foot injury, I just hope she doesn't start too fast.

Re: Road to Melbourne 2015

Thank you for starting off the season by opening up the Oceania thread in such a professional way, Poldo! Let’s hope Mona’s season will be successful enough to revitalize her subforum which has almost died recently.

I am not sure if it is a wise decision to already start the season in Auckland, especially if you consider that she received a torn ligament just four weeks ago. Even in the case of a full recovery she is still missing at least four weeks of preparation. In my opinion, she at least should have canceled Auckland and Hobart in order to get two more weeks of traning, but maybe she can’t wait to play matches again.

Anyway, auf geht’s, Mona!

Re: Road to Melbourne 2015

wow, good news and actually fantastic news is that Mona actually seems to be able to play Auckland already
I am not sure what we can expect from her, I just hope that she is without pain and can be at 100% soon again and then I hope that her slow progress continues and that she will be close to top 30 again soon, good luck!!!

Re: Road to Melbourne 2015

Expecting nothing from her really, but maybe this will losen her up quite a bit, we'll see. She does not have the most physical game anyways, so I guess we'll see a more aggressive Mona than usual perhaps?

Re: Road to Melbourne 2015

I only hope she will play without any risk, pain free. Maybe she will score some good wins there as she will probably play without any pressure

I really hope that she is not rushing things. Playing Auckland a few weeks after her injury sounds crazy to me.

She often gets sick after a long flight.

Oh, even the lyrics go with her situation.

Re: Road to Melbourne 2015

So apparently it's R1 vs. Ana Konjuh in Auckland

Obviously my 2 faves had to face each other in R1. The year's starting well

Re: Road to Melbourne 2015

Full Auckland draw:

(8)Barthel v Konjuh
Vesnina v Mladenovic
Bertens v Nara
Cepelova v (3)V.Williams

Even though she won Bastad, 2014 was a major step back for Mona momentum-wise. Will she be able to rebound in 2015? Historically this is the time when she produces her best tennis.

Tough first round against a talented upcomer, but if she's focused Mona should should win. She only has one round (from Hobart) to defend before the AO, so she should take advantage!

Mona received a torn ligament just four weeks ago and is sick now. So what on earth makes you think she SHOULD win against a hugely talented player like Konjuh without any proper preparation? I mean, it can nonetheless happen, but it doesn't seem to be likely at the moment.

That major step back of which you are talking already happened in 2013, shortly after she won Paris. I would rather say that 2014 was a step forward, because she started to work with a professional coach.

All in all, it's a tough draw with very strong (potential) opponents in every round. So i don't expect anything from Mona. I simply hope that she somehow survives Oceania without any additional injury.

Re: Road to Melbourne 2015

I'd forgotten she had a torn ligament. Why is she playing Australia with a torn ligament? Very strange.

Well, to amend my analysis, we'll see how bad the injury is if/when she plays her match.

Is that better for you Tecumseh ?

Yes, that sounds better.

We are still not sure about the severity of her injury in such a way, that we don't know whether she received a partial or a complete torn ligament. But anyway i think it was not a wise decision to travel to Oceania. She should have at least left out Auckland and Hobart, in my opinion.
