A thread for 13 yo Melisa (born Sept 1, 2005), who comes from Adana and lives in Istanbul, and has cruised to the U14 Junior Orange Bowl title this week!
She was the 4th seed there, beat Aubrey Nisbet 1 & 0 in R1, Jasmin Makela 2 & 0 in R2, Josie Usereau 1 & 1 in R3, 14 yo (9)Katerina Dimitrova 0 & 3 in R4, 14 yo (9)Solana Sierra 4 & 3 in QF, (9)Violeta Martinez (who upset top seed Yang in R4) 1 & 4, and 12 yo Canadian Victoria Mboko (who had also slain a few seeds on her way to the final), 3 & 1!
Before this, 2 weeks ago, she reached the SFs of U14 Eddie Herr, where she was the 4th seed, beat 10th seed Alexia Blokhina 4-6 6-2 6-4 in QF before falling to 11 yo prodigy (5)Brenda Fruhvirtova in SF, 4 & 1.
Before Eddie Herr, she played her first G18, a month after turning 13 and being eligible to play them. This was a G5 on home hard in Istanbul, in which she was given a MDWC and reached the SFs, destroying (7)Makhamatjonova 2 & 0 in R2, routined fellow Turkish hope Melisa Senli (same age) 2 & 4 in R3 and double-bagelled 16 yo Oleksandra Dobranos in QF, before falling to fellow Turk (1)Ozlem Uslu (14 yo, #470/CHR 324) 3 & 3 in SF - Ozlem then dismantled (3)Uyar to win the title.
And before that she had won 4 consecutive G14s, in Bulgaria, Serbia & Germany.
She is 44-5 this year
We should see her in the highest U14 tournaments and some more G18s next year, GL!
