Serve or Return - Which do you prefer?

Pretty simple really, do you prefer serving or returning.

I prefer serving. I have decent serve and it backs up my shots. I like returning as well, but with serving you control the point from the get go, for better or worse

Re: Serve or Return - Which do you prefer?

Same here. Serve is probablly my best shot along with my forehand anyway. On other side my return was never really good

I prefer returning because it's harder and more challenging. It depends on your opponent and you really have to change our strategy depending on how they're serving. Moreso than serving yourself.

Re: Serve or Return - Which do you prefer?

I prefer to serve. Now that I think about it, I almost always choose to serve first.

ROS is one of the best parts of my game, so when I get in a rhythm on my serve it's BYE to my opponent.

Re: Serve or Return - Which do you prefer?

Hard to say.

When my serve is working, I can win a lot of free points on it. When my serve is off though, I want to run away.

Returning takes a lot of concentration...sometimes I just can't get a serve back into play...so I'm more for serving I guess.

Returning

My serve is not so reliable, so that's why I prefer returning. But also, when my ROS is on, I hit some excellent shots

Definitely serve. Probably my best, most consistent shot.

Re: Serve or Return - Which do you prefer?

Before fixing my serve, I would have said returning because I take giant cuts at the ball when I return. However, since I got older and actually did some shoulder work-outs, getting it to be stronger and stabler, I prefer serving now.

Re: Serve or Return - Which do you prefer?

I used to prefer returning, but now that I basically cannot hit a forehand in the court anymore I prefer serving.

Re: Serve or Return - Which do you prefer?

returning. my serve is inconsistent and i hit a lot of double faults. the faster my opponent's serve is the better my return is for some reason so i put quite a lot of pressure on the server i think. i also try to get the ball right back to their feet ala davenport style but i can only do that consistently when i'm having a really good day.

Re: Serve or Return - Which do you prefer?

Weird to hear people say returning is hard. I understand people are different but For me, it's the easiest shot.

Serena Williams. Maria Sharapova.

Wozniacki. Stosur. Jankovic. Bouchard. Halep. Muguruza.
Venus. Stephens. Cornet. Hampton. Bencic.
Seles. Henin. Davenport. Hingis. Clijsters.
