London commuters turn against Extinction Rebellion protesters

In London, commuters, angry at disruption caused to their journey by Extinction Rebellion protesters, dragged them off the roof of a tube train and set upon them.

Taking your actions too far and so alienating the public whose sympathy and support they need seems pretty stupid to me.

Do they really think things like this will get the governemnt to act on climate change? I mean, it definetly gets them noticed and it gets people talking about them, but that's not going to lead to the governement doing a damn thing.

It will get them talked about certainly, but in a bad way. If things are going to change it will only come about because of changing attitudes and public pressure (look at how public opinion is slowly forcing retailers to use less packaging and reduce plastic use). Stunts such as this, which alienate the public (ironically whilst thy are using a low-carbon emissions form of transport) are just plain stupid.

This is the same group that had a broccoli man on national TV who didn't know what he was talking about.

Typical hard left extremists, one thing they do well is turning everyone against them

This is great for Naomi, Kiki, and Al Nabhani (who should really be contesting club matches against Alexandra Stevenson), so everybody wins!

Bingo. I had the exact same thought myself when I saw the news yesterday morning.

Even as a non-driver who has walked to and from school, college and work all my life, and otherwise used public transport, I find their approach (and whole way of thinking) exasperating.

Re: London commuters turn against Extinction Rebellion protesters

I support Fridays for Future but not Extinction Rebellion.

Although the guy blocking the train was probably acting on his own initiative and not representative for the XR movement, too many parts of the movement look like a radical doomsday sect. They are harming the cause of the fight against man-made climate change by attracting all sorts of weirdos and anarchists, just like the yellow vests did in France for their cause of social justice.

Fridays for Future on the other hand is necessary to remind citizens and politicians every week that something has to be done. After Trump effectively killed the Paris Agreement, too many people were made to think that careless life with short-term economic growth goals at the expense of the environment can go on as usual.
