Her official PB would have been good enough for Top 10 last year's EC. Poland hasn't had a EC Top 10 in ladies' skating since Zuzanna Szwed finished 7th in 1996 IIRC.

Finished 8th at the Russian Juniors in 2017 and then came to Torun and was competing for Poland on the domestic events. She won the National title (at the Four Nations Championships) by 40 pts this year. She's a part of Bryan Orser's group in Toronto (no surprise since the Torun Arena doesn't have heating ).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_F..._Championships

She could be the best thing that happened to Polish figure skating since Zagorska & Siudek retired

@Monzanator , do you remember Polish great Anna Rechnio? I believe she finished 2nd in the short program at 98 Worlds! She was a powerhouse. Huge jumps, great presentation. But unfortunately, she was too inconsistent. She was a stunning beauty as well!

Yeah, I remember her. She managed to finish 5th & 6th at the World Champs while her best result at the Europeans was 7th She was the youngest member of the Polish 1994 Olympics squad and finished a staggering 10th. Sadly she was a mental headcase. She completely bombed at the Nagano Games and then retired from the sport after a lowly 16th at the 2000 Worlds. She currently lives in Denmark with her Russian ex-skater husband.

Just back on Kurakova, obviously she has a private sponsor to meet the Orser training demands. Our Federation doesn't have any money to provide such opportunity

It's probably Trump.

He likes to start grooming his future wives from Eastern Europe at an early age.

If Orser finds out that he's her sugar daddy, he will be pissed.

Not sure if this has been posted but Rika Kihira's SP will be to "Breakfast in Baghdad" (there's also a clip of her skating to it at an exhibition on YT too!)

Re: 2019-20 Figure Skating Season

I'm happy for all the girls like Kurakova, Ryabova, Paganini, etc. who get great opportunities for themselves outside of their original countries, but I wish super-talented girls Tarusina, Gubanova, Guliakova, Tarakanova, Nugumanova, etc. would all get their chance to shine too. None of them can even get GP assignments...figure skating sometimes really pisses me off now with some of its...archaic decisions coming from the ISU. Figure skating has just an insane amount of depth now, even compared to just five or ten years ago. The fact that they still country limit the GP when it's supposed to be the best figure skaters tune-up, the fact that they country limit Worlds (when it's supposed to be the best in the WORLD?),the fact that they only allow 6 women at the GPF when the substitutes could compete for a bronze medal just annoys me. I get a country limit for the Olympics but...like come on everything else is just archaic and meant for the 6.0 system where there was no depth and you would only have really good skates from 3 or so competitors a competition.

Currently recording the legend's 19th #1 single

Ekaterina Kurakova SP at Skate Ontario yesterday (score 61,70). They played the music from youtube or something?

Re: 2019-20 Figure Skating Season

Rika Kihira's FS "International Angel of Peace"

Music:
1. O Virtus Sapientiae by Maya Beiser
2. Beirut Taxi by Hollywood Studio Symphony
3. Mother Tongue by Dead Can Dance
4. Sacred Stones by Sheila Chandra
5. In A Moment of Greatness by Larry Groupe

It's actually a medley of these 5 songs, and it's a really lovely program IMO (there are some clips of her skating to it floating around on Twitter). I still prefer "Beautiful Storm" though - but that's one of my favourite programs ever so it'll be pretty hard to top.

She still hasn't gotten the jump timing right yet, missed quite a few of her jumps and fell on some, too. Thank goodness for her there's still some time before the season starts for her at ACI.
