Rhino Poacher Trampled To Death By Elephants Then Eaten By Lions

According to the NYDailyNews, an elephant trampled an alleged rhino poacher to death and then his remains were reportedly eaten by a lion.
According to the South African National Parks, the incident took place last week at Kruger National Park and the man’s remains were discovered two days later. The deceased man’s family told police that his friends told them the man had been killed. The four friends fled the scene but were later arrested and are currently in custody.

After the family was informed, they called the park and head ranger to conduct a search party to find him.

“Entering Kruger National Park illegally and on foot is not wise, it holds many dangers and this incident is evidence of that,” Glenn Phillips, Managing Executive of the KNP, said. “It is very sad to see the daughters of the diseased mourning the loss of their father, and worse still, only being able to recover very little of his remains.”

“Between January 2005 and January 2017, nearly 2,000 elephants and roughly 6,300 rhinos had been slaughtered at the hands of poachers in South Africa and Kenya alone,” the organization said.

Re: A Would Be Rhino Poacher Stomped To Death By Elephants Then Eaten By Lions

There have been several instances now over couple of years where poachers have been killed by wildlife (mostly lions). See here for example.

Of course I don't know for sure, but I suspect that if these cases were studied more closely, they would find out that lions have learned to use .308 caliber rifles.

Of course it is not impossible that particularly stupid bunch of poachers go to bushes in dark, moonless night, where they can easily become prey themselves. Still...

Dust, on a mirror turned black,
the refection is flawed, all the mirrors are cracked,
strange how the glass seems to sing.
But the words are like death, they could be anything.
Here we are, win or draw, badly used, badly scored.
Here we are, gone before, in another time.

Good riddance.

But then again, animals are so aware of poachers, last year a colleague from work has been trampled to death by an elephant in Zimbabwewho attacked a group of tourists. They ran away and she stumpled - that was her doom.

I don't think if 5 ton elephants would perceive tiny 70kg humans as a threat, this would've happened.

Whatever happened to that American dentist who went on safari and killed a lion and it got out on social media and he had to go into hiding?

I can never understand what pleasure people get out of shooting animals. There was a rare albino stag, in Scotland I think, and instead of saying, 'wow, what a rare and beautiful animal', people were outbidding each other for the right to shoot it. Why on earth would you want to do that?

Illegal hunting is awful and normally very damaging to the environment. However, controlled hunting can be a great ally to the environment, and I think people should be aware of it. By what I saw, the dentist himself was not at fault. If one does hunting in a controlled way, it won't hurt the diversity. With the money from it, parks can become more independent of governments. Lots of hunters are responsible and are conservationists. I personally like the hunt for food thing, not a fan of trophy hunter. But it can be good and I think people judge it too harshly and very often hypocrite.

I realise that sometimes animals need to be culled to control their numbers. The doesn't apply to lions though "It has been listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List since 1996 because populations in African countries have declined by about 43% since the early 1990s." (wikipedia).

My main point though was that some people seem to get pleasure from killing animals for sport or trophy hunting, and that I can never understand.

There healthy wildlife populations in some African countries, in order to maintain them and also benefit the communities living amongst them trophy hunting and culling is carried out. Rhinos, lions, elephants, various antelopes, you name them, they all have a certain quota every hunting season, even culling of seals. Of course poaching is rife, and will continue to be so as long as there is a market for rhino horns and elephant tusks.

Not everyone likes the same things and understands why people like what they like. Lots of people don't understand why some like to play tennis.

killing animals for fun or trophies is just wrong, plain and simple. there's no possible understanding whatsoever applyable here, so cut your BS.

I disagree. Do you eat meat, dairy or things with eggs? Because if you do, those activities are much more cruel and much more harmful to the environment than trophy hunting.

Trophy hunting can actually be good for the planet.
