Lightbulb Civilization 6...

The official release date is October 21st... and I await with baited breath

Of the new civilizations on offer, I am particularly interested in the Scythians since they are basically a pre-cursor of the Ukrainian people

Here is a link to site...

Civilization VI | Homepage

So, are there any other Civheads on TF???

If so, perhaps we could play online when it is released. PM me if you're interested.

Cheers,

AQ

I stopped playing after IV. This one does look good. I may get it but not sure yet. I have too many Paradox Games to play already.

Re: Civilization 6...

I was a bit disappointed with V. Everything looked great and I loved the whole culture borders thing but the fields were so small. You could barely build three cities and you had already hit another civ, making it impossible for your civ to expand in any other way than conquest. VI looks the same from these trailers.

My fave is still Civ 2. Very two dimensional but it had an enormous landmass to expand in. Making war is much more interesting when it's empire vs. empire not civ with 3 cities vs. the same.

Yeah, a lot of people got frustrated because of the default settings. However, if you play on a Huge map instead and change the default number of Other civilizations from 12 to 8 then you get MUCH more room to expand and the game becomes infinitely more playable, especially on the higher levels like Immortal or Deity.

If you ever want any other pointers for playability, I have lots.

Re: Civilization 6...

Not a huge follower or gamer by any means, but I've played bit of Civilization V and admired the concept and playing mechanic a lot. Also learnt a bit about history along the way.
May this game be as good if not better.

Well done to Simona Halep on finally achieving her GS dream at RG. Never say die!

This is a good article about the incredible longevity and popularity of Civ...

Well, those are sold on mobile and consoles, so not really comparable.

Tetris is by far the best selling game of all time if you look at all platforms with around half a BILLION!!

If you look at the whole series on computers, I think Civ just edges out The Sims.

I remember playing the original Tetris at college in late 1988

And yes, I was studying as well

As for the Civ series: I could never really get into it, although I have a recurring addiction to the spin-off game, Alpha Centauri.

And Civ makes Sims look boring by comparison.

I remember playing the original Tetris version in the arcades during my youth in the mid-80's... now I play it once in a blue moon on my iPhone

I liked Alpha Centauri for a little while but got bored with it... there was just something about not being able to actually relate to the various colonies, I guess.

Tetris will be in the all time HOF when it comes to games.

Up there with chess in its simplicity, and addictive potential (well chess is more complicated with its permutations I guess but it tends to flow very well). Really the neatest thing, is that any 4 year old can work out how to play it and sit on it for hours. That to me is a great game by design.

Unfortunately its partner Pong and derivative pinball has not aged too well. I guess castle defense is the new thing (but boy those get so old).

Re: Civilization 6...

So, they just announced a couple days ago the 25th Anniversary Edition (man, does that make me feel old).

It instantly sold out on Amazon and Amazon UK for pre-order. Luckily, on Amazon.ca there were some left so I placed my pre-order today

Now I feel like a kid waiting for Xmas though...

Re: Civilization 6...

My problem with CIV VI from what I've seen is that it looks too friendly to the touch devices and that translates to unfriendlier to PCs.
