Re: Danish Delight - Caroline Wozniacki thread - vol 3

Peer was defintely Caro's toughest opponent so far (even though she lost more games against Wozniak). Fortunately Caro also played the best tennis I've seen her play this year. She moved her opponent around well on many points, forcing errors. I'm particularly happy about Caro's steady serve, solid net play and perfect BP convertion.

Na next. Na won in Sydney because Caro made a boatload of uncharacteristic errors. But that was Caro's first, rusty match of the season. Now she's on a roll and even though her haters will never acknowledge it she has actually added some offensive weapons to her arsenal. She'll probably start out trying to outsteady her opponent, but if Na has a good day Caro will have to mix up her game. She was unable to do that against a suddenly strong Dokic last year, but I think she has learned it now. And judging from Na's last two matches she's not very consistent right now. Also, if this match goes to three sets Na may be just a tad weary after her two long matches, giving Caro an edge because of her easier wins.
Caro is a 60-40 favorite in my book.

Luxembourg 2016 & Auckland 2018
Madison Brengle: "I'd rather chew on a pinecone than play this match (against Wozniacki)."
Nicole Melichar: "Do you want me to go find you one?"

Nicole Melichar: "I'm really happy I don't have to play against her (Wozniacki)."
Madison Brengle: "Oh, thank you, that makes me feel so much better."

I think if you had been following this forum any length of time, you would have seen that there has been many posts discussing some of Team Wozniacki's decisions. So criticize away.
I do.

But to call Chief Coach Piotr for a idiot is stupid.
However much or however little he knows about tennis, without his support Caroline wouldn't be where she is today, and we would not even be here criticizing their planning.

Remember there isn't a whole tradition of good players in Denmark and there isn't any competition inside the country. She won the Danish seniors at 11? !!! She is the first Danish women to win a WTA singles tournament, nobody has ever gone over #34 or been in a Slam final.

So to do something completely different and new is a praiseworthy thing in its self.
Even if he could be a bit of an arsehole and have his eye on the main chance, which isn't proven yet.

Re: Danish Delight - Caroline Wozniacki thread - vol 3

A nice win for Caroline today, showing her mental strength, a good weapon.

When she came on court she didn't seem to be too happy, I wonder why?
The sudden unexpected shortness of the Bagdadis Leyton game caught her on the wrong foot?

Anyway it was good so see her winning net points and getting a point with the one handed backhand volley they had practised on in the Christmas pause.

Lets hope she is more awake on monday after a day off (and no doubles) and beats Na.

Completely agree and nothing to add.
Since Luxembourg the criticism of team Wozniacki went ridiculous, most often by people that had absolutely no interest in facts, but just needed a new excuse for their hatred.

I saw a new one today in GM: "Caro's winners are not real winners", etc. etc.

We're all Caro fans, but you can call Piotr an idiot if you want to.

I really hope Caro beats Na, and I hope she does it with ZERO winners and Na has 440958 errors.

Beating Na and then V Williams with like 11 unreal winners and 5 Ues in each match, would really stire things up.

It is my opinion and I'm sorry if being negative about Piotr annoys anyone in this thread. I love Caro and I am 100% behind her but on Piotr I can't understand, don't get him and don't think he really knows what the hell he is doing with Caro's career. I mean telling Caro to argue with the umpire and linespeople to get calls in her favour as a tatic

If Piotr has a major say (which I think he does) in who Caro's coach will be for the future then I am worried.
Maybe other coaches have more expertise than him (maybe not, I don't know), but she's the number four ranked player in the world, so he must have done something right.

Awesome

The claim was, as I understand it, that caro only hits "winners" when she's forced to by the opponent. Yeah, eg. "some of Caro's winners come when her opponent forces her to hit a winner"

So let's hope she beats Na with 5 unforced errors and 11 forced winners

What the average GM poster fails to understand is that winning a match with 10 winners and 15 UE is far more impressive than winning with 23 winners and 45 UE. Going for broke on each shot and missing two out of three or three out of four times - I fail to see what's so impressive about that.

Re: Danish Delight - Caroline Wozniacki thread - vol 3

If you look at the average hater thread, ALL Carolines opponents have Winners and Ues, and Caroline only has Forced Winners and Forced Errors.
What will they think of next.

You have to look at in a positive way, success = rise in number of jealous haters.

When someone young, talented and beautiful achieves fame and fortune as well it just brings out the worst in some people. How they dare to call themselves tennis fans is beyond me though.

Re: Danish Delight - Caroline Wozniacki thread - vol 3

Know the haters might implode.
By only winning matches with Forced winners and Fored errors in all of her far too many tournaments where she has a cakewalk draw each time.

Caroline is now #3 on the Boiled Eggs WTA Ranks Update Thread

I haven't looked at the stats and worked out how it will be after the AO, but with it looking like this there is a possibility she will not be #3.
Code:
1 Serena Williams 26/09/81 USA 280 7475
2 Dinara Safina 27/04/86 RUS 280 6480
3 Caroline Wozniacki 11/07/1990 DEN 280 5905
4 Svetlana Kuznetsova 27/06/85 RUS 280 5861
5 Venus Williams 17/06/80 USA 280 5306
6 Vika Azarenka 31/07/89 BLR 280 4740

Re: Danish Delight - Caroline Wozniacki thread - vol 3

One game at a time I know but anyway Stats copied from GM.

Safina and Kuznetsova are out.

Quote:
#1 Ranking after Australian Open 2010

Serena is #1 if she wins or loses in the final. She's also #1 regardless if Safina loses before the final, and Wozniacki doesn't win the title.

Safina is #1 if she wins and Serena loses before the final. She's also #1 if she loses in the final, but only if Serena loses in R4 and Wozniacki does not win the title.

Wozniacki is #1 if she wins the title and Serena loses in R4.

Venus and Azarenka can not be #1.

Wozniacki and the TOP 3

It's guaranteed unless:

a) Venus wins AO
b) Wozniacki loses before SF, and Azarenka wins AO
c) Wozniacki loses QF, and Venus loses F
d) Wozniacki loses R4, and Venus loses SF
