2006 Cheering Thread for Angie. Latest news here

We shall discuss about Angie here.

Anyway here are the recap of the news that I read on the local paper :

Angie can't wait to play competitive tennis after having missed the WTA tour for a year because of the left knee injury. Angie will start the year at the 10K tournaments in India for two weeks in a row that starts on 23rd January.

According to he manager, it is confirmed that she would start playing on the early year even though her condition is not 100% well yet. Angie also has asked for a WC in qualifying draw at Tokyo.

Angie can use her special rank for 8 WTA tournaments and one Grand Slam. Her management hasn't decided on which tournaments yet however, for Grand Slam, Angie wants to use it at Wimbledon.

Angie's goal for this year is to reach top 100 again.

Good luck Angie

Thanks for the news.

Glad to hear that she'll be playing in India. Definitely a good place to start from scratch.

There will be 2 $25Ks in Australia in February the week after Pattaya. I think it'd also be a good idea for her to play there. It won't be too far from home either.

Wow, I'm surprised the PPO organisers have given a qual WC to her.

Good for her.

I'd have preferred if she saved her PR for later tourneys, but I guess that's ok. Good luck to her.

BTW, I just noticed that the 2nd leg of $10K in India is on the same week as Tokyo.

Will she skip the $10K for Tokyo now?

I think Angie will skip both $10K in India now, since she need to play from qualifying in Tokyo.

I would actually prefer her to play in India from the lower tournament (hence maybe more matches), but I am sure she knows what's the best for her at the moment.

Good luck Angie.

I'm surprised, too! Angie registered to Toray with NR so she requested for it. I also wish Angie to use her SR later on. I think, Angie has been treated well by the Japanese tennis organizers. If I am not mistaken, in 2001 she actually got WC in qual or MD for AIG but she did not go to Tokyo. In 2003, she received WC in MD at Toray, remember? With no correlation to getting WC, Angie's sponsor is Toalson, a Japanese string producer. The surface of Toray, IMO - is not suitable for Angie who just recovered from injury. I have been to Toray back in 1996 when Majoli lifted the trophy. I just pray for Angie's best return!

Since Angie was junior then she played senior level, she never came to India until Hyderabad Open 2003, then Hyderabad 2004 and 2004 Fed Cup Asia Oceania Group I qual round. I also prefer Angie to play 10K first as way to build-up her confidence. But, maybe Angie knows what's best for her.

It is wonderful to see Angie and Wynne play dubs again. Last time, I saw them in Fed Cup when Indonesia defeated Slovenia 4-1 in July 2004! They have good record as a pair in Fed Cup. While on WTA tour, their best result was as RU in Pattaya 2003 when they lost to Sun/Li.

If weather permits, I plan to see Angie's practice this coming Tuesday. Rain is too much these days. Last time I saw Angie's practice in February 2005.

Thanks for the info, Adji

Send my regards to Angie (although she doesn't know me ). Hearing she has fully recovered and plan to play soon is already a very good news for us. As long as she's healthy, I am sure she will eventually get the good results again. I don't have any expectations at all for her to win her matches at the beginning.
