Is Andreescu’s spiral hair tie actually magic?

Yes, she’s lost matches/had to retire with injuries even when she’s worn it, but when she hasn’t worn it ONLY BAD THINGS happen:

1. French Open R1 - forced to withdraw from the tournament due to shoulder injury
2. Rogers Cup Final - Serena retires due to back spasms, anticlimactic end to a hyped up match
3. China Open QF - loss to Osaka and end of winning streak
4. WTA Finals RR1 - loss to Halep and back injury

I can’t think of any other time she hasn’t worn it this year, but there’s a clear trend. Hopefully she never takes it off in 2020 lol.

The brain is a powerful tool. In the WTA RR2 she wore it iirc, and retired.

Personally I think she’ll continue to wear it if she wants to wear it... I think she likes that others paid tribute to it wearing Halloween costumes with it this year, so it’s clearly a thing about her...

When she hasn’t worn it this year, yes there were some negatives... That said, when she did put it on for her last match she suffered a season ending injury in the third game...

Certainly doesn't protect against injury.

So this is new way to discredit her opponents wins over her? Let her play whole season and tournaments b2b. Then will love more insane excuses

Like wands, sceptors and other servitudes to Magick Andreescu's telephone cord allows the concentration and in turn the primary function of Magick - direction.
Although born in Canada Andreescu has spoken at length about her mother's influence on teaching her ancient techniques which have enabled her to achieve great success. these techniques, although Andreescu herself is not, derive their spiritual ancient heritage specifically the forgotten mystical techniques of the Romani. Such techniques like visualisation and meditation have been forgotten over time but mama andreescun has the hook ups at the beauty parlour.

Things like that are more about keeping it simple and focusing the mind. Ultimately it's just a single image to contemplate to block out the chaos of stimuli coming from your emotions, the opponent, the crowd, etc. She's a meditator, and I'm sure she used it as a kind of "mantra" for a while.

It's not a hair tie. It's a rubber key ring.

So why didn't she wear it in those particular matches?

See my tennis match collection here. Matches are available on DVD/Blu-Ray or to download.

I don't know about yellow, but apparently wearing red improves sporting performance. But wearing orange can make you angry..and maybe lead to racket smashing.
