$25K Malibu: (WC) Ashley Lahey def Olga Danilovic 7-6(7-2) 2-6 6-3

What a win for Lahey, simply refused to miss in the 3rd set and hit some nice winners, cheered on by locals too.

Olga looked very frustrated.

Tsitsipas & Sakkari outed.

Olga seemed such a big prospect when she won that one off clay tournament in Moscow last year. Why and how has it gone so wrong since?

At least she has age on her side to try and turn things around.

Olga close to exciting the top 200!
uhm, Olga will not be exiting the top 200 since she defends 30 pts until WB Q

but it was such a bad match overall omg, Lahey was the more agressive and stable player, Olga was not having it, also went into quite a few arguments with the umpire who was, from my point of view at the wrong several times, once she even corrected herself when Danilovic started arguing with her

Olga is actually on an upward spiral. She already dropped out of top 200 this year, came back, and is defo not exiting as she's defending 5 points till March. Good win for Fahey!

I was editing my post, you replied too quick! Just saw that she was ranked 190 something and assumed wrong.

Danilovic was real drama queen. Yelling" i dont have nerves for this" ,during first games of third set when she was getting dragged/outplayed.

Lahey playing on her university's home courts and gets a great win! She is a senior at Pepperdine and still only 20 years old, so it's great to see her being able to finish out her college career and grab some points for when she starts as a pro next summer. Before she started her freshman year, she reached the third round of the US Open junior championship, and she has a really nice, solid game. I love to see that she's getting her degree without sacrificing her pro ambitions!

Look forward to Lahey starting full time on the tour after she graduates in May. I think with some time and experience, she can be a really good player on the tour.

Re: $25K Malibu: (WC) Ashley Lahey def Olga Danilovic 7-6(7-2) 2-6 6-3

Danilovic is such an headcase... She's hot headed, temperamental, impatient. Another example of a talented youngster who skipped some fundamental steps on her transition and is now paying for it.

I think a lot of this comes down to her feeling entitled to success, which is in a way kinda natural because of that WTA title, but I suspect she's gonna need a couple of years before she gets back to the top100.

Nevertheless, Lahey was always an interesting junior who probably could have tried pros and she will make an impact next year definitely.

What's Lahey's game like?

I'm just too lazy to go to the US Open.

Ashley

1999 girl Ashley Lahey is not as bad as some people think.
She has won a 25k already (in her 6th tournament). So she seems promising.
And she was a Top 60 junior - despite not playing much and has won sets in juniors against Blinkova, Masarova, Anshba, Kenin and Juvan. And at the junior US Open she reached R3 as a qualifier and only lost in 3 close sets 6-4 6-7 3-6 to Kenin (the SFs were Kenin vs Kuzmova and Day vs Andreescu, and Day won the US Open title).

Olga

Olga is still slumping. And seems a bit overrated.
Also we should not forget that she won her WTA title as a LL, so should have never won it.

Olga is only 19 so she still has a plenty of time ahead of her to change some things that stop her from progressing as a player but the real question is if she has the right team to work with her.

Gosh what a fall from grace...Olga really looked on par with the girls of her age group a year ago but its all started to go horribly wrong. I wonder if winning that first title made her feel too much pressure?

Was Olga's title run a fluke? She's still 19 I guess, so there's time.
