Re: Questions about wta in 2020

I dont know what to expect. At the AO, Barty is at home and #1. Andreescu is going for 2 majors in a row. Osaka is going for a repeat. Serena will be 38 and 4 months
A year ago I would never have guessed Barty would be the clear Player of the Year for 2019 and Andreescu would win a major. This was a wild year!

Re: Questions about wta in 2020

1.Will Barty continue dominating WTA?
Not dominate but should be a quality top 5 player. Should be #1 a long time during 2020

2.Will Andreescu keep looking invincible if she is able to be free of injuries?
I dont know what to expect from Andreescu. If she can stay healthy, she might be the best player on hardcourt

3.Will Osaka and Halep win a third GS?
Not in 2020 but I can see Osaka getting a 3rd down the road

4.Will Pliskova and Svitolina finally win a GS?
Probably not but they are capable

5.Will Serena get the 24th?
My guess is no. But it wouldnt be a shock if she did

6.Will Kenin and Anisimiva reach the top 10?
Kenin probably will. From consistency & being steady

7.Will Gauff be Top 20? I dont expect it

8.Last year for Sharapova and Venus? Very possible

9.Will Azarenka win a tournament? In doubles. She used to be so good! Her prime was a great era, around 2011-12,

10.Who will have the best season:Kerber, Muguruza, Wozniacki, Stephens or Ostapenko? I
'll give Woz one more chance

11.Who will finish the year being number 1? Svitolina

12.Tokyo podium. Last 3 were Dementieva, Serena, Puig. How about Bencic?

You forgot to ask if Kerber will finally win a P5/PM event

The most important question of them all!

Re: Questions about wta in 2020

I want to see Angie in 2020. She turns 32 in January and unless you're Serena, Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, its tough in mid 30s
I expect Bencic to do something big, and I expect some young player, like Yastremska or Vondrousova, one of the under 22 besides Andreescu will do something
Its so wide open now. At least 20 with some chance in Melbourne. Last 3 AOs had 6 different finalists

Re: Questions about wta in 2020

What I've learnt is 12 months can change so much on the tour.
Anybody could get pregnant.

Honestly Serena isn't finished yet in my mind, despite the mental hurdles to get 24. She's made 4 GS finals since her comeback. A tournament could fall apart like it did at the French Open and she still has a load of experience.

Barty will probably have a similar type of season, even if she does not pick up a GS, I can see her contesting a couple more P5/PM finals.

Re: Questions about wta in 2020

Yes, Serena was impressive in several of her US Open matches. Andreescu was impressive for how many tough opponents she beat before the Osaka loss in Beijing
But I've seen Pliskova, Kvitova, Bencic, Svitolina, all play really good matches also without winning in 2018
The hard part is getting thru a major and finishing it off. 4 different slam winners in 2018 and 2 were first time winners, Barty Andreescu
The tour is in a good situation now. A lot of young stars from around the world and all competitive tournaments.
ATP has the longterm consistency of the big 3, WTA has a wide open look

Not important, she has three slams which is all that matters. P5's are for the likes of Pliskova, Bencic and Svitolina. Sorry but it's the truth.

Re: Questions about wta in 2020

1.Will Barty continue dominating WTA? No, maybe on grass. I can see this Fed Cup f'ing up her offseason and AO campaign.

2.Will Andreescu keep looking invincible if she is able to be free of injuries? No, 3 loses down, and some players won't fear her anymore.

3.Will Osaka and Halep win a third GS?

4.Will Pliskova and Svitolina finally win a GS? Never!

5.Will Serena get the 24th? If only

6.Will Kenin and Anisimiva reach the top 10? Maybe Kenin.

7.Will Gauff be Top 20? No, 50s

8.Last year for Sharapova and Venus? When and where will the right carpet be rolled out and thegoodbye tour?

9.Will Azarenka win a tournament? Very possible, even a MM

10.Who will have the best season:Kerber, Muguruza, Wozniacki, Stephens or Ostapenko? She has shown the best willingness to grind it out.

11.Who will finish the year being number 1? Anyone in the current top 10.

12.Tokyo podium. Osaka and any random top 50.

Re: Questions about wta in 2020

Barty will go on a sophomore slump but win a couple P5s to keep her ranking afloat. Injury ridden Andreescu could miss half the season but randomly peak come French Open. Serena, Osaka and Halep miss out on majors. Kenin flukes Cincinatti title to reach the top ten. Yastremska peaks at a couple Premiers to enter the top ten. Gauff will reach top forty. Sharapova, Wozniacki and possibly Kerber retire. Azarenka wins a doubles Slam but singles wise will hover around the top fifty. Ostapenko reaches the top twenty again. Pliskova wins US Open to take the year-end number one. Osaka, Pliskova and Bencic for the Tokyo podium.

Re: Questions about wta in 2020

1.Will Barty continue dominating WTA? She’s a boring but consistent player. Her ranking will keep her relevant the entire season.

2.Will Andreescu keep looking invincible if she is able to be free of injuries? Injury is the only thing holding her back. Every one of her losses in 2019 was either a gritty 3 set loss or a retirement/WO... Hopefully her and her team get her regimen locked down, because she’s good for the tour.

3.Will Osaka and Halep win a third GS? Hopefully one of them do. This kind of consistency is needed at least somewhat in the WTA. I would say one does.

4.Will Pliskova and Svitolina finally win a GS? Svitolina has real game and tennis IQ, but will her body hold up to this constant grind? Pliskova is the most dull robotic player on tour and seeing her win a Slam wouldn’t be great.

5.Will Serena get the 24th? Anything is possible, but if she wins one at her age and reduced form, someone else has to choke.

6.Will Kenin and Anisimiva reach the top 10? Kenin is a great young player and plays like a machine. She has to start getting better points in bigger tournaments to have this happen.

7.Will Gauff be Top 20? Andreescu got 1 wildcard in 2019 and won the whole thing. Gauff has more opportunity as an American to do this kind of thing, and that’s what would do it...

8.Last year for Sharapova and Venus? Venus has actually been playing while still declining, she’ll probably play as long as she enjoys it. Sharapova hopefully goes away soon; her time is over.

9.Will Azarenka win a tournament? I hope so. She’s putting in the work and she’s very good for the tour. On a related note, hopefully Clijsters is able to do something interesting also.

10.Who will have the best season:Kerber, Muguruza, Wozniacki, Stephens or Ostapenko? Kerber got what was coming to her with the whole “drama queen” garbage and had a terrible year following, but also oddly more irrelevant than she should have been this year. Possibly able to make a come back; the whole will she win a PM will be fun to follow. Ostapenko has been very good with the new coach, and Wozniacki may come back with some focus next season.

11.Who will finish the year being number 1? Halep is my pick, but I would love to see Andreescu just to see what that would do to Tennis Land.

12.Tokyo podium. Andreescu, Halep, Osaka

Gritty 3 set losses to Osaka and Halep, when she was in winning positions in both and an injury retirement to Pliskova when she broke the “Ace Queen” to start that match and was injured in the 3rd game aren’t 3 losses that are going to make Andreescu less fearsome to other players... Hardly.
