Hard fought and won match!

Well done Kiki!

Who cares of hypertrophic weapons when the player on the court moves like music?

I love Kaia but good grief does she love a choke....

Should have won this , even Bertens coach suggested she should quit if the foot injury doesn't get better after taking painkillers.

Tsitsipas & Sakkari outed.

Great fight from Kiki. Much better than her anaemic performance at Linz!

Kaia She was leading in both 2nd and 3rd set before losing - definitely could have won.

The Mummy almost spoiled the YEC dream for Bertens. Go slay at AO Kanepi.

Kanepi with an almighty choke to keep Bertens' YEC dream alive. The Estonian blew 3-1 lead in the 2nd and topped that by blowing 4-1 lead in the decider. Kiki all sorts tired and I would not be surprised to see her get beat by Sevastova's pushing on this terribly slow court tomorrow. Suddenly Belinda is back in the race. Although she is not very fresh either.

Re: Moscow R2: Bertens d. Kanepi 4-6 6-3 7-5

I know the WTA stats are often inflated, and she did actually play quite well (especially given the injuries and fatigue), but Bertens with 42 winners to 35 unforced errors seems a lot better than her actual level in the match.

Good numbers, but Kaia choked about 8 times and still almost won it. That messy game at 5-5 in the third felt beyond unnecessary. In the end it was about who could fight harder and take advantage of their opportunities more, rather than whose level was higher. Both playing decently but Kiki a much better competitor today.

Happy Kiki is still alive for Shenzhen though, and thrilled Kaia is in the AO main draw. This has still been a good week for her.

Wow Kiki . I could not watch the match but was following it on live scores and it must have taken so much grit for Kiki to fight back in both sets, especially when she seems to be exhausted and has been struggling with form lately. Very impressive.

Beating Sevastova/Mladenovic will not be easy though, and even then she'd need one more .

My number one: Victoria Azarenka

ATP: Novak Djoković

Crazy Frenchies: Gilles Simon Alizé Cornet

At times Kiki looked like a zombie out there. Earlier it really looked as if she was going to get wiped off the map in straight sets. Glad she committed to dragging herself forward no matter what. Onwards and upwards into the YEC — by hook or by crook.

VERY ENCOURAGING WIN FOR KIKI, I did not expect this.
She does want that spot and she's showing it,
Step by step,
I hope she takes that #8.

Wow, she's really fighting to go to the YEC, but gosh, she's scheduled herself to exhaustion this year. If I counted right, this is her 26th event of the season. That's not the scheduling strategy of a top player. I don't know what her future looks like success-wise, but she really needs to be smarter next year if she plans on being a true contender. She had some fabulous highs this year but also some weird losses, and she really didn't make a dent at the slams.
