No sure if it was a comeback by Bencic or a choke by Hercog.

Belinda is a mess at the moment but this was still a good fight from her to win this.

Re: Moscow R2: Bencic survives Hercog 1-6, 6-3, 6-4

Very unconvincing though.

She may beat Yastremska as she has a good record against her, I gather she may be carrying an injury and it is always close however given the pressure it is very difficult to see her winning the SF whoever the opponent.

Was Kiki there watching to psyche her out or an advanced scouting trip?

The interview was bizarre - everyone knows including her that probably 1st choice this week would be to play in Luxembourg and 2nd choice would be to rest but this is the only avenue to her goal.

Every time I read her comments or listen to her she is always saying there is no pressure on me or the opponent has all the pressure etc. To become a really good player and by that I mean winning tournaments on a regular basis including the odd GS as opposed to having a fantastic week every now and again she needs to embrace her position in the game and the expectations and pressure that brings.

Her talent and determination and brain say top 5 player so it would be a shame if her temperament prevented her getting there.

Choke obviously and Polona knows how to bottle matches. From 3-1 and 30all in 3rd she hit 2 double faults in a row and did not stop making unforced errors until service game at 3-5. Belinda was in tears at 0-3 down in the decider and needed pep talk from her soccer player/coach/boyfriend/whatever and then switched to vintage pusher mode and it was enough against serial choker.

Yeah, based on this form she’s not going to get into the WTA finals.
Bertens also isn’t in the greatest form as of late (barring her good Beijing run) so whoever makes it to Shenzhen is going to struggle there against the competition.

Then again that’s what people said about Svitolina last year

Ash Barty | Venus Williams | Elina Svitolina | Hsieh Su-wei | Czech players

Re: Moscow R2: Bencic survives Hercog 1-6, 6-3, 6-4

BB was shortening the points quite a bit, coming to the net often ( Not really her style) + the usual Hercog choking helped her out. 2DF in a row from nowhere *3-1 up in third

BB did however look really pumped in last two sets, maybe a tiny bit of gas left. Really don't know what to think at this point, she’s still lacking in energy.

Not exactly an easy draw either.

Tsitsipas & Sakkari outed.

Headless Hercog did it again. Never in doubt.

BB has struggled since the USO - she’s gone into off season mode already but having to force / will herself to try and qualify for the WTAF which is a good effort.

Hercog’s handshakes often so salty.
