the WTA is back ,and its time to stop living in the past !

with Gauff, Andreescu, Osaka, Anisimova, Swiatek, etc it is clear we are witnessing the birth of the strongest generation the WTA has seen since the late 90s/early 00s .

teens are winning slams, winning tournaments, making slam semi-finals, etc again . most of them are very marketable with engaging personalities for western audiences .they have big and exciting games . even Barty as maligned as she can be for her lack of marketability has proven to be rather consistent and can play her part in all of this .

2020 is set up to be a very promising year for the WTA ,a renaissance if you will . and while its fun to think about Serena's quest for #24 and Clijsters comeback it is clear that the main story of the tour is all these exciting youngsters who are the ones actually out there winning and winning big .

its time for this forum to wake up and smell the roses and embrace the future because it is here and it is going to be fantastic !

Re: the WTA is back ,and its time to stop living in the past !

let's not get carried away just yet. ( i didn't know the w.t.a. had gone away)

yes, it looks very promising but we know with up and coming young players things can change very quickly.

everybody thought genie would be a saviour a few years ago, but unfortunately that didn't happen, bencic has been injury prone.

hopefully bianca will not be a flash in the pan, i don't think she will, but we don't know yet.
osaka & barty look to be there for the long haul, but it's easy to get to the top, much harder to stay there.
anisimova, swiatek, yastremska, gauff, kenin, vondrousova, muchova, all look great, but you can be sure in the insta/twitter/facebook world, one or two of them will most likely fall to the wayside.( lot's of distractions)

there are still many young players under 25 like sabalenka, mertens, svitolina, vekic, keys, etc. who could yet be slam champions so who knows.

so yes, it looks promising, but with sport, the great uncertainty is the unknown.

we also have plenty of "older players" around the 28-33 range to keep the younger one's on their toes.

SO MAYBE, ACTUALLY THE W.T.A. IS BACK, and everything in this post is rubbish and i've been typing away for 5 minutes for nothing. ( o' dear)

anyway, i would rather watch the w.t.a. than the a.t.p. anyday.

Why are you mentioning a bikini model?

Queen Venus - Belinda - Ashleigh - Naomi - Ana

Maria - Amanda - Bianca - Agatha

back then, she actually played tennis to a very high level, even if her game style was ugly, and the W.T.A. marketed her to the hilt.

Unfortunately I think Iga is injury prone, but hoping she can stay injury free. Also, maybe Ostapenko can get back in track with Bartoli, now that would be really awesome. Either way, it can't get any worse than the post Belgians pre Aljona generation.

Re: the WTA is back ,and its time to stop living in the past !

Lol I always waited for Genie's downfall the moment I saw her flaws in her groundstrokes technique. I knew she couldn't possibly sustain her momentum in her flagship year the moment people knew the best strategy is to hit hard at her feet. And Petra deliciously demonstrated this tactic in the Wimbledon final.

This is great for Naomi, Kiki, and Al Nabhani (who should really be contesting club matches against Alexandra Stevenson), so everybody wins!
Mladenovic wins 63 63

it sure is, when Gauff Anisimova Andreescu and Sabalenka reach their peak in a couple of years, even young and peak Serena would have trouble winning more than 7 slams in her career.
This might be the dawn of the most competitive tennis era since the 90´s

Henin, Kerber, Hingis, Plíšková, Federer, Thiem

Future looks great. I m hoping naomi from next season onwards brings consistent level of asian swing. Then she will win many big titles!

Yes it is best gen to appear after 2000s gen. I hope they stay consistent in 2000s. Well i also thought during 2011 - 2012 that wta looks great with serena sharapova azarenka kvitova dominating. But i was wrong. So things can change aftee promising start

Re: the WTA is back ,and its time to stop living in the past !

The best time is always now! It was the best time when Serena, Venus, Hingis etc were coming up. It was the best 10 years later when Azarenka, Wozniacki, Kvitova were coming up, and its the best now with Osaka, Andreescu and Barty at the top
