Tianjin F: Peterson d. Watson 6-4 6-4

Congrats to Becky, clearly looked more comfortable with the move to indoor court than Heather and played v well to come back from 0-2 in both sets.

Heather - good week. Please build on this!

Between Linette and Peterson it's been a great few months for the No Real Strengths No Real Weaknesses of hard-working but extremely dull crew of players. Spent most of this match wishing I was watching Jabeur/Kudermetova instead.

Re: Tianjin F: Peterson d. Watson 6-4 6-4

A shame for Watson, had the early break in both sets, a number of game points where she failed to hold, and often had 0-30 on the Peterson serve, but just not quite good enough in the end. 28 next year, and on the tour a long time, I think at this stage it should be all about ensuring she is constantly top 100, and qualifies for all the slams directly, and then the odd run like this here and there, and try and do well on the grass. She lost to Bolkvadze and Grammatikopolou in the 2 most recent slams she had to qualify for, so the surprise 180 points here means she will now avoid that situation in Melbourne.

Well done to Peterson. Been a very profitable Asian swing with 2 international titles, and therefore not surprisingly up to a career high.

Congrats Becca!

But does anybody know if/where she will play next week? He said she'll play on clay!?

Re: Tianjin F: Peterson d. Watson 6-4 6-4

I think Watson probably deserved a set in this match but she was way too loose in the crucial moments. Peterson no doubt has the mental edge in most of her matches.

Things are looking great for Peterson going forward. There is no doubt in my mind she will carve out a better career than Arvidsson did. But I do question whether she has weapons enough to truly contend in bigger tournaments. But she is getting tough to beat, if you win matches good things usually happen to you in terms of draws. Stable players go far in tournaments all the time without doing anything special.

Too many errors by Watson, good tournament in any case. Rain, 10 spectators and all.

Congratulations to Rebecca! Solid match and after being down 0-2 in the second set a good comeback.

Sucks they had to wait for 6 hours and then have the match indoors in front of only a row of visible chairs.

Impressive fall season for Peterson - collecting 2 WTA titles. Sets her up very well for next year.

Naturally disappointed for Hev, but on the bright side she’s back inside top 100 and has DE into the AO MD. Given the Brits a little something to cheer for during the Asian swing whilst Konta is MIA.

If they had played in the standard court attendance would have been the same.
Actually playing this in the gym was better... there were more people than in the semis

I find myself liking Peterson more and more as I watch, but I have to agree with your assessment. "No frills" or "blue collar" tennis sums her game up nicely. Though I will say that Rebecca's FH has become a strength: she doesn't have massive power with it (compared to say, Yastremska), but is willing and able to attack from that wing.

Congrats to her - I figure she'll have several more before her career's over.
