Re: Who Will Be Future MiniGoat: Osaka or Andreescu?

I think Osaka will give Andreescu problems on faster hard courts. But on slower surfaces, such as clay, Andreescu would be the clear favourite. Hopefully we'll get to see this matchup at least a few times next year. Should be interesting.

I don't know who will be mini goat but i want them to win one slam each per year and other titles over next decade which will bring consistency on tour and bring more casual audience which is good. and develop a good rivalry. Which we lacked this decade...I will be more than happy if naomi ends up with venus or henin number of slams! same with andreescu
Though i will still give edge to naomi to win more slams in end.....

This is going to be the next big rivalry ...

Just wish they both had more competitive personalities to add to the dynamic, both are a bit too nice.

Re: Who Will Be Future MiniGoat: Osaka or Andreescu?

Naomi always has been and to my mind still is a single surface player. This may well change - many many top players have improved their game on clay and/or grass over the years. I mean this is the year Simona won Wimbledon - clearly not everything is forever. But it does mean Naomi is starting at a bit of a disadvantage.

Plus they have quite different personalities.I'm not saying Naomi doesn't mind losing - all very competitive people hate losing. But I think people who enjoy being in the limelight have that extra source of motivation to do well. And I think Bianca really enjoys the limelight.

So at the minute I would would give the edge to Bianca to be more consistent. But there are so many variables - how they improve their games, deal with the endless touring, but the first being that they both hold together physically.

Why not both? I donít think itís an either/or. Both are young have the best potential of the younger active players right now.

Re: Who Will Be Future MiniGoat: Osaka or Andreescu?

What do you mean with "They are a bit too nice"? We don't need a bitching slugfest like it was between Vika and Martha!

Bianca & Naomi have different Personalities but what I like the most by both is the genuine caring for other Players/Opponents. Bianca started it in Toronto with Serena in the Final, Naomi followed it up by practicing with Iga Swiatek prior to US Open and that moment with Gauff. Also that Sportsmanship with Poots after she twisted her ankle.

I am more than happy with them alternating Tournament Wins so I hope Bianca does very well in Beijing.

This is to all Users who like both Bianca and Naomi:

Let's stop pitting them against each other and enjoy their Careers. I certainly will

before talking about any rivalry between these two Osaka need to be more consistent along the season, she has a really (few) highs but a lot of downs as well. Bianca bar the injuries seems like she doesn't have that issue.

Hard to say. Osaka has a better serve which is definitely a strong advantage, though Andreescu seems to have the edge in a lot of other areas like variety, defence, etc. Only time will tell, and things can always change quickly.

Well, some people correctly pointed out that Osaka had some minor injuries which halted her Mojo. I think she had a good chance winning Stuttgart (Abdominal) and Rome (numb thump).

As she was building her Mojo for the US Open that stupid Knee Injury popped up in Cincy. If she is physically fit, watch out.

You're speaking about consistency. I just took a peak at the 2018 YE Ranking Points for Osaka.

2018: 5.115 Points
2019: 4.246 Points (Race Points to date)

Not a whole lot in it in 2019 with Beijing & YEC still to come.

well Andreescu has a 92% win rate over a season of 49 matches (45-4) so far Osaka has never come even close to such a track record of winning so consistently and i'd be surprised if she ever did .

Andreescu's career win rate is already 13 percent points higher than Osaka's (61 vs 74) so @Masha Is Back is right that it seems Andreescu is more capable of being consistent right now

Re: Who Will Be Future MiniGoat: Osaka or Andreescu?

Bianca's body seems so susceptible to injury that I don't think she will play long enough to achieve anything GOAT-worthy.
I can see her being done in 5 years time.

Naomi seems to have the legs. If she is still around until her mid 30s I think she can achieve mini-GOAT status easily.

Percentage points*. Osaka's win % is not great but AFAIK she's played WTA matches for a fair bit longer before her breakthrough. It's true that she's come nowhere close to Andreescu's win rate this year though, and Andreescu's record against top 10 players is mind boggling while Osaka's is far less impressive.
