Red face TF Myth About Empty Stands In China DEBUNKED

stands in Guangzhou were absolutely packed today for early round match involving non-Chinese players

https://www.wtatennis.com/videos/201...past-jakupovic

not to mention Zhengzhou last week, when the last Chinese player fell in the QF

https://www.wtatennis.com/videos/201...rtic-win-title

yet there are those on here who will use empty stands as a reason to criticize Chinese tournaments

Thats good! This is time of year the WTA makes most of their annual revenue, and big crowds, and good fields are what makes this sport great!

The most wasted of all days is one without laughter....
Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there
Enjoy This Moment!!
HEALTH and HAPPINESS to EVERYONE

Well duh Svitolina is a superstar in Asia. She has won the Asian Grand Slam: Singapore, Dubai, Kuala Lumpur and Baku.

I am not a fan of the direction a lot of Maria threads have taken over the last 12 months.
The undertone is very disappointing, aggressive and the comments are sometimes rude to a player just trying to earn a living, playing her hardest and having a good amount of success given her god given, natural talents.
You made the list: NEW President Bouchard, Cibulkova, Mladenovic, Wozniacki, Kerber, Cornet, Watson, Broady.
Please note this is a signature about Tatjana Maria

The stadiums were empty for the matches I saw. They were 10 people watching Muguruza. 12 people watching Puttintseva. etc.
Bring all those tournaments back to Europe. Even Istanbul was always standing room only.

If we even argue that there are not enough people in China of all places to fill a small tennis court then they are not that interested. At least bring the Euro indoor swing back. I loved those tournaments.

Who cares of western-centered retards anyway.

Who cares of hypertrophic weapons when the player on the court moves like music?

Western and western-centered are two different things.

Are you trying to argue?

Re: TT Myth About Empty Stands In China DEBUNKED

They have definitely appeared better. However, Zhengzhou last week was a temporary main court as the 8,000 main court isn't ready until next year, so it'll be interesting to see how it is next year:

https://www.thestadiumbusiness.com/2...new-wta-event/

Likewise Guangzhou looks so much better this year, but it is definitely a new main court, and not this court from last year:

That was the final featuring a Chinese player who had been tearing up the field without dropping a set, and that was a 10,000 stadium. Last week in Zhengzhou it was about 8 rows by 25 x 2 sides.

Nanchang had it's usual court, and that was so-so throughout:

The new Zhengzhou stadium kind of defeats the object of my next point, but if they can generally go to having 500-2000 courts looking relatively full instead of those figures in 10,000 or 15,000 arenas, with a decent atmosphere, then it will be so much better.

One thing I will say is that the Chinese certainly don't mind staying late - it was after 12.30am when the Zhang match finished and there was a similar number remained throughout the evening session.

Re: TT Myth About Empty Stands In China DEBUNKED

Zhengzhou is really going to an 8,000 seat stadium The smaller atmosphere looked cute and unique and actually gave you know.... a crowd environment to the event instead of tons of dead zones. It felt personal, something lacking in almost every event in Asia.
