Yastremska vs. Ostapenko vs. Keys: who has more strategic ability/plan B/court craft?

All 3 are commonly described as BBBs on TF.

On bad days, there seems to be a lot of balls flying around randomly into the stands.

However, sometimes they use their power quite intelligently.

Dokic&Kerber&Serena

Stosur - Venus - Hingis - Diyas - Jankovic - Niculescu - Barty - Sabalenka
Gavrilova - Wozniacki - Kvitova - Zvonareva - Osaka - CSN - Sevastova
Aga - Cibulkova - Lisicki - Bencic - Cornet - Halep - Mladenovic - Davenport - Ostapenko
Some level of love/fascination for Ivanovic, Giorgi, Azarenka, Sharapova, Makarova, Kuznetsova

Re: Yastremska vs. Ostapenko vs. Keys: who has more strategic ability/plan B/court cr

Ostapenko directs the ball and opens the court well. Unlike the other 2, her biggest problem is not being brainless and dumb. Her biggest problem is not having a serve. If she had a serve like Keys or Yastremska she would be stacking up titles. To be fair, if she had a decent serve I Don't think those things would be a big deal for her.

I'm not saying she is the better of those 3 as a player, as the serve is the most important shot of the game (even though her achievements may corroborate with this idea), but in terms of strategic ability/plan B/court craft she is easily the superior one.

Re: Yastremska vs. Ostapenko vs. Keys: who has more strategic ability/plan B/court cr

Honestly I'd say Keys you can make an argument on bad days that she's the worst, akin to a baseball player, but I have seen matches where Madison has reigned in her power in favour of controlled aggression, devastating crosscourt angles and percentage serving, all of which open the court up and make her job to finish the point very easy. Even the Charleston final this year demonstrated the patience Keys can play with, something Davenport was able to instill temporarily. Sadly for Keys, it's just not something she seems able to sustain over a long period of time.

Aljonka and Dayana really have no court craft whatsoever to speak of at the moment. I felt like Dayana was *maybe* learning to control her game better earlier this year but I'm really not sure now, her last couple of losses were absolutely diabolical in terms of quality and just spraying the ball everywhere but inside the court.

As for Ostapenko, she did show in the 2017 Asian Swing that she could play with a modicum of consistency and a plan B in the sense that her shot selection was good and she would at times reign it in/scrap a little when necessary, but for the moment her confidence issues on serve affect her entire game, leading her groundies to become snatched rather than hitting through the ball. Because she's almost steering it at times now which is a bad habit, it leads to a lot of errors and timing issues with no plan B or coping mechanism to deal with it.

I think Keys is the best out of the three. When she's on only few players can match her power but she folds like a cheap tent on big moments especially in the slams.

Ostapenko has big groundstrokes but her serve is horrendous and I think she got lucky that Simona had a mental collapse in that Roland Garros final.

Yamstreska, I don't really care for her. I will always remember that once she played dirty tactics going for an MTO when she didn't really need it just to disturb her opponent rhythm and win an MM title.

Re: Yastremska vs. Ostapenko vs. Keys: who has more strategic ability/plan B/court cr

Keys I guess. I noticed in the tournaments she won she was actually trying something new by going for more netplay/dropshots/using her defence and constructing rallies better. She went back to BBB mode the next tournament though

Penko is the one who won a slam but I think she never had to rely on her plan B for that. She relied on her mental strength to pull off the win.

Yastremska.... yeah no. Zero strategy sorry. SHe also hasn't got the achievements of the other two so that's another negative point for her.

Keys when she is measured and reigning in her power anyday.
I don't think I have even seen Yastemaska try a dropshot, when winners rain, they rain, other times the advertising boards are in trouble.
As for Ostapenko, I just wish she was more trainable and listens to her coaches, not sure what is discussed, but somehow she looks as as she is one of who never listen, and is never wrong, that is why some aspects of her game never improve. Her serve is horrible, and so is her attitude.

Re: Yastremska vs. Ostapenko vs. Keys: who has more strategic ability/plan B/court cr

I think Davenport did a terrible job with Keys. She quit in set 2 against Svitolina
She wasnt going to beat Svitolina, Serena, Andreescu anyway, but she quit and gave up. then Sviyolina quit against Serena. Unbelievable how these players just bag it and go home instead of competing. Look at Nadal fight and look at the women go home early with no fight
You have to get her to steady up and stop hitting the routine balls in the net, over and over, the same error
Ostapenko never learned to serve and that she won a major is pretty amazing. She was zoning when she beat Wozniacki in the QF, hitting lines on serve returns on huge points a few times

The most wasted of all days is one without laughter....
Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there
Enjoy This Moment!!
HEALTH and HAPPINESS to EVERYONE

Re: Yastremska vs. Ostapenko vs. Keys: who has more strategic ability/plan B/court cr

Ostapenko is, and always was, incredibly overrated on this board but she's back to her real level these days. Embarrassing how she managed to win a slam with that pathetic serve. She is better at doubles where she can hit in the tramlines.

Dayana is a massive talent. And she's only 19. This is her first full year and she has done pretty well. She volleys well too.

Halep mentally collapsing against Ostapenko and Svitolina mentally collapsing against Halep. They were both very lucky to have made it the final that year.

Yes, Yastremska was willing to be dirty against Tomljanovic who has no title on tour. That was in Hua Hin, Thailand.

Keys is the biggest BBB of the three. With Keys, it is all about how much apeshit she is willing to go.

Re: Yastremska vs. Ostapenko vs. Keys: who has more strategic ability/plan B/court cr

Yastremska is the youngest of the three and has more chance to improve her game. She isn't a mental midget like Keys and not she knows how to serve unlike Ostapenko.

Ostapenko does hit drop shots often enough for that to be mentioned in this thread.

I've never seen Yastremska slice or do anything.
