Re: Bianca Andreescu's forehand > Nadal's

Different balls...and also Rafa's avg RPM is around 3500 whereas Bianca's RPM is around 2250 (not 100% sure but this is what I remember from a US Open graphic) which is probably the highest in WTA right now I guess.

1. Not the same balls.
2. Not the first time it happens. Women's shot can be fast but obviously not as heavy.

Re: Bianca Andreescu's forehand > Nadal's

The level of play of the men is so much higher that its not worth discussing
Its like saying Keys>Nadal because its a faster forehand

Re: Bianca Andreescu's forehand > Nadal's

People keep going on about her variety, which is good.....but her main weapon is her power, very precise and knows when to make the necessary injections of pace/power in rallies, especially in return games, steps in and attacks the corners of the court.

Opponent coaches will need to figure out a way to negate this or else she will just keep on winning.

Bencic was smart enough to figure this out and could have easily won the SF... Dominated first set and led *5-2 in 2nd set nullifying and redirecting Bibi’s game with ease. Just got tight and let Bibi back in.

I'd be curious to see Yastremska's. Those flat cross-court forehands of hers are bombs.

Re: Bianca Andreescu's forehand > Nadal's

Yeah, as others have said, what makes Nadal's forehand so lethal isn't its pace but its spin. Both Bianca and Serena hit their forehands very hard and I'm not surprised their pace is in the same ballpark, or even a wee bit faster, compared to Rafa. I would be shocked if they recorded anything close to Nadal's rpm however.

The Game Insight Group analyzed Australian Open data over a five-year period from 2012 to 2016 and found that Keys had the second-fastest average forehand and backhand speeds of all players. Her 78.9 miles per hour (127.0 km/h) forehands trailed only Tomáš Berdych, and her 72.8 miles per hour (117.2 km/h) backhands trailed only Li Na.
Random fun fact!

Which just goes to prove there is a lot more to tennis than just hitting the ball hard.

Re: Bianca Andreescu's forehand > Nadal's

It's not just spin though (for one, Medvedev is one of the flattest hitters on the ATP), but style of play. Nadal and Medvedev are counter-punching grinders. Andreescu and Serena are offensive baseliners. You can see for example that in the respective finals, Nadal and Medvedev both averaged over 60ft covered per point both covered over 20,000ft during the match) while Serena and Bianca covered about 30ft per point (both covering 4000+ ft during the match):
https://www.usopen.org/en_US/scores/...romo=sumscores
https://www.usopen.org/en_US/scores/...o=matchchanger

The returning dynamics are very different too. Top WTA players tend to return very aggressively because WTA serves aren't particularly powerful and 2nd serves don't have the same high kick as men's serves. Bianca and Serena were teeing off on each other's second serves winning 70% and 61% of 2nd serve return points respectively (Nadal and Medvedev were both in the 40's and they're 2 of the best returners).
I'd also imagine nearly 5hrs of hitting would sap some power off 2 players in a very physical match.
And the different balls.

It also ignores 70% if Nadal's shots are usually him moonballing.

But Bencic's "video game tennis" was bound to ran out of steam. Her own legs can't keep up with her oftentimes.

I mean she can't forever do what she wants to do in her speedy mind and redirect all incoming on time... time after time. She had a chance to win because Bianca is a "problem solver" who tries various tactics to see which one works best. This attitude has an inherent vulnerability against some players like Bencic (who love to take time away from opponents and can in the mean time quickly get the job done and wrap up before Bianca settles on a solution.

Not true!

Men play is much more powerful, but level is not higher at all.

Topspin by itself also does not mean high level at all.
