Hiroshima R2: Su-Wei Hsieh d. Priscilla Hon 1-6 7-6 7-5

Houdini type escape by Su Wei. Hon has serious power for her size.

Oh Su Wei. Wearing 5 different brands and 2 different hairstyles (she was bringing back the Tekken braid in the US but it's gone again!).

Like she said, this entire second half of the year she has been out of form. But i’m so impressed with her will to fight through it. On paper this should have been easier (much like her last match), but she was on the brink of defeat so many times and kept pulling a rabbit out of her hat. Still going a bit too bold in the big moments but then that paid off in this one (especially to get that final break at 5-5 in the 3rd).

It should be noted that Pri played one of her best matches i’ve seen, too. Ballbashing brilliantly at times and even servebotting through large stretches of the match. She served for it THREE times, but a combo of nerves and Su Wei coming up with the goods did her in. Hope to see her continue this form. AUS may need it for Fed Cup final!

SW plays Hibino in the QF. Keep fighting!

Whyyyyy do we have to suffer so much??!!

SW was a bit sniffly, hopefully better for NaoBear.

It’s very easy to get a good highlight from this match, but it hardly represents the entire match.

Hsieh cuts her unforced errors down by starting to run for points when Hon was serving for the match in second set kicked the nerves in.

Hon’s stamina couldn’t keep up her serve and striking for more than 2 sets. She was visibly tired in the tie break and looked like about to faint in the 3rd. I think her 50 UE count came all from the end of the second set and the third set.

Re: Hiroshima R2: Su-Wei Hsieh d. Patricia Hon 1-6 7-6 7-5

Su-Wei and Hon are listed as the same height, but in the handshake and coin toss Hon looked 2 inches taller.
Hon is definitely more powerful than the skin 'n bones Hsieh, but she had trouble hitting the ball past the "junkball queen" at the end of the match.
Chinese/Aussie Hon looked fatigued at the end of the match, while Su-Wei looked fresh as a daisy.

Su-Wei drives her opponents krazy with her junkball game, but it is fun to watch.

Re: Hiroshima R2: Su-Wei Hsieh d. Patricia Hon 1-6 7-6 7-5

The first set was brutal, Priscilla Hon can really hit big, big serves, big groundies, and she is a good mover too. Hon is a very good ball basher really. Her game reminds me of Caroline Garcia, but Caroline prepares for the ball even earlier than Hon and gets more topspin on the forehand.

Hsieh simply could not cope off the ground unless she changed up the pace today, so she really dinked the ball around and had to rely on her magic touch.
Although I felt that Hon was comfortable moving forward, she has not worked this into her game yet. When Hsieh dragged Hon forward on her own terms, she was winning the cat and mouse battles in the forecourt (as she so often does).

Entertaining match which Hon probably should have won. Hsieh was very tricky to pull this through today.

SW managed to fight in the end, Pri serving for the match was tragic, SW was giving her so many opportunities - getting aced, double faulting, UFEs...

What the hell did I just watch? Epic choke job from Hon, served for the match three different times in two sets and still lost

I had more fun watching Tomljanovic blow out Kerkhove yesterday

Su-Wei

What is its nature? He covets. That is his nature. And how do we begin to covet? We begin by coveting what we see every day.
And don't your eyes seek out the things you want?

I can't trust you anymore
