Why are many TF users so butthurt about Gauff's early success?

The reaction from many TF users about Gauff's early success is a puzzle to me. For the past decade, everybody has been complaining about how the WTA lacks new characters and young stars, and now that the WTA finally has one, most hardcore women's tennis fans are bitching and moaning about it.

Gauff brings excitement and attention to women's tennis in a way that we haven't seen since the Williams' sisters came on to the scene. She's also winning Grand Slam matches, so she's backing up the excitement with actual results. I don't understand what's so bad about all this.

Are some of you butthurt because your favorite is not getting nearly enough attention? Well, deal with it. For millions of sports' fans, viewers, sponsors and investors around the world, your favorite is not nearly as exciting as Gauff.

I like Gauff, but this thread is unnecessary.

It's the same folks that hate Serena and Venus. Don't waste your time asking questions.

Three reasons, two of which I think are semi-legit: 1. Some TF users just hate black players.
2. People aren't trusting of the huge hype around her and don't like it, thus giving them pause and causing them to not like her as much...though I think she tends to like these huge stages so far. But we'll see how she does next year.
3. People don't like the US Open bending the WC rules for her.

You can guess which one isn't semi-legit.

Don't hate her, don't even know her actually (never seen her play, certainly), but if there are any hostile reactions, then i guess it's the result of overexposure...

Wozniacki and Genie earned many haters that way. But Wozniacki was a legit top player, and Genie provoked mostly hate reactions (plus had a really great 2014 and few other top50 seasons)... This girl's basically biggest achievement so far is being good for her age.

I'm alaways right, even when Im wrong...

Let's not go there with the race card just yet. A few vocal TFers voicing their distaste for Gauff's style of pushing does not represent how the majority feels about her. By the number of fans she has amassed in such a short span of time is more indicative of the support. By TF standard, we are just cautious and skeptical about "the next big thing" as we've been down that road before and nobody was able to live up the hype and step up to fill in the footprint left behind by the likes of Steffi & Serena. Hence, when someone is hyped to death, we are bound to be skeptical especially when the results don't quite parallel with the hype. Without the love for a particular player, there would be no hype. Therefore, OP is wrong to assume that MANY TFers are hating on Gauff. Some are just simply not impressed or just cautious about Gauff being the next bing thing. Understandly, she is still so young and her game is still developing. I, myself am a fan of her not because her game is really impressive to me, but her mental strength is amazing at this age. She already has the mentality of a champion. Hopefully she'll be able to translate the rest of her game into success.

My question is why do people always just lump Serena and Venus together???...they are sisters, but they are completely different people with different success and really different personalities on the court???...some people like one, but not the other and that's fine...like how they decided to lump Venus into the situation last year and ban Ramos from doing Venus matches when she had nothing to do with the situation....

are people that lazy that they don't bother looking at sisters as two different people...

Re: Why are many TF users so butthurt about Gauff's early success?

Firstly, I don't think her game is that exciting tbh.

But mainly hype is just annoying, TF doesn't really bother me but non-tennis fans raving over Gauff when they can probably only name less than half of the current top 10 is just a total disservice to more accomplished players. She's not revolutionising tennis particularly she has a solid game that works well for her fitness and clearly she's very talented. She's very good for her age but if she had reached R4 of Wimbledon without playing Venus in R1 literally no one would care even half as much as people do.

But I wish her well if she wins slams then maybe the hype will be justified but last year Kostyuk was hyped and now we don't even know if she will ever actually make it.
Larcher de Brito, Karatantcheva, Robson, Konjuh all had hype and basically anything can happen.

Edit: I know this is probably voiced later in the thread but relating to the Wimbledon run she's beaten like 5 top 100 players. Slumping Venus and Rybarikova. A choking Hercog and a thoroughly unprepared on grass Bolsova and now Popatova who ironically I also think is overhyped. Please wake me up when she beats a top 50 player who has actually been in some form.

Re: Why are many TF users so butthurt about Gauff's early success?

It's probably because media, especially ESPN, is shamelessly promoting CoCo. Her mental strength is strong because she has nothing to lose and she doesn't know what she doesn't know. She's so naive she stated she wants to win more GS than Serena. Sure, there's a chance she's a future GS winner, but I would say that's probably 500-1 odds.

The media will destroy CoCo's career and her childhood...

I tell you the Main Reason for it: Jennifer Capriati.

Many People of TF who follwed Tennis for a very long time know what happened to Jenny and there're fearful the same thing could happen to Coco. They think it's going waay to fast for Coco and I can't say I am disagreeing with them.

We don't need Coco to be flamed out Age 20.

I actually like her.

I gotta say though i think she is tremendously overhyped...until she reaches a Quarterfinals of a slam or wins a big title outside of slams...the hype is unwarranted...
