Do you think Rybakina will get a USO WC?

She currently is in the qualies list, but she’s very like to be top 60 or even top 50 by the time the USO starts. Not sure if the USO will care enough to hand her a deserving WC into the main draw. What do you think?

Kvitova - Andreescu - Bertens - Sharapova - Swiatek - Yastremska - Anisimova - Vondrousova - Kudermetova - Sabalenka - Bencic - Puig - Kostyuk - Rybakina - Potapova - Danilovic

No chance at all unfortunately. Zheng was ranked about 60 last year after reaching Nanchang F and Washington SF after the cut off, but had to play quals where she lost in Q1.

I suppose if she did do quite well in the US and got inside the top 50 like you suggested then it may ask the question, but with the reciprocal WCs, and the 2 they give with their set criteria, this doesn't leave many spare.

Wimbledon had 5 MDWCs spare this year, and I doubt they'd have given her one either if in this situation.
I agree. Generally Slams don't reward players who crack the top 100 after the cut off with MDWCs, even if they substantially surpass the top 100 threshold. The exception would probably be if a player cracked the top 100 after the cut off prior to Wimbledon providing that the tournaments that they achieved success in were on grass.

No, also what? How does she deserve a main draw WC? She is a player who is just now breaking out, who will make her top 100 debut next week. If she was American sure, she'd have that WC already, but seriously this is a big fat no. Also come AO next year she won't even need one as she'll make the MD anyway, so why is this even a discussion?

I get that you want her there quicker, but wouldn't you like it more if she got there on her own, especially when she clearly is capable of that? Also she is young, those qualification rounds will do her good at the USO, get her used to the surface, get her match ready.

Last time I checked, she's not American, so the answer is NO!

Especially not now when Gauff gets a WC for the main draw.
But otherwise: also not.

PAST: Kim Clijsters - Maria Kirilenko - Ana Ivanovic - Yanina Wickmayer - Tatiana Golovin - Nicole Vaidisova

PRESENT: Garbiñe Muguruza - Amanda Anisimova - Fanny Stollar - Sofya Zhuk - Petra Kvitova - Sloane Stephens - Donna Vekic - Lucie Safarova - Noami Osaka - Katie Boulter

No because Tig will get one. Or maybe even two wild cards, one she can give to a friend.

Maybe because the thread is about the US Open? Hence why there is a discussion? 😕

No, because likes of Anderson, Vickery and McHale are getting one.

See you're trying to play smart but you know full well what I meant, or maybe you don't so I'll just explain. US Open is the next Grand Slam, the poster above wants a player he likes to get a Wild Card to the next Slam (which so happens to be the USO, thus why he used that in the title) because she is on a roll now. She won't, for many reasons, get that WC but come next year she will get main draw entry at Slams, so she won't need any going forward. The first Slam of the year is AO, also where she will have her first main draw entry with her current ranking, hence why I used that as an example. Thought it was obvious, but I guess not for everyone.

Re: Do you think Rybakina will get a USO WC?

It’s unlikely imo. Unless she goes on a tear during the 4 week USO Series I don’t think she will be in contention, even if she were to win the Bucharest title today.

And although I think Rybakina is on the rise, I don’t see her making a huge impact during the USO Series. I don’t even know if she’s entered the qualifying lists for San Jose, Washington, Canada, Cincy & the Bronx.
