She was really good.. I expected a lot from her and I failed. Never forget when she withdrawn from AUS swing because of an operation of her dog ( why she didn´t do that in off season; it was kastration)

de Brito was good. That thread looks like Gauff. at 14 she beat Shaughnessy and played Hantuchova close. But having a long successful career is a different deal from being good at 14, 15
What I remember most about her was the screams. She came up when loud grunting was popular and she was the loidest

Yeah, she was really good at 15. She beat many good players right off the bat. Even, when she was barely or out of the top 100 a few years later, she beat my fav. Lucic-Baroni a few times. I saw her beat Mirjana at Washington, DC in 2012.

Out-grunted (and beat) Sharapova at Wimbledon. Should have been the start of something big.

Threads like this are probably a bit more interesting, TBH:

Hagatha's public hate for a 15/16 year old was beyond pathetic.

However, more on topic - Larcher de Brito was another player similar to Paszek, who garned signficant notoriety as a talented supernova, who started to rise just as court speeds were declining, as the game was changing for mid-ranked players, and whom the game passed by before she was even 18.

Michelle was all groundies, and not much else - woeful serve that never improved; unable to play defense; couldn't generate her own pace on slower surfaces; had zero mid-court game - and despite being a FIGHTER11!!11! at the very start of her career, once she was figured out, and found herself floating around the upper-echelons of the challenger tour for a couple of years, she actually seemed mentally quite brittle, and the opposite of what had been sold to us. I really enjoyed watching her groundies, but a very flawed player, who may have achieved a bit more had she been born a few years earlier, but had too many fundamental flaws ever to be a top player of any sort.

Grassonkova.

I liked her a lot, taking all the grunting aside. Her win against Sharapova at Wimbledon was memorable.

Re: No Comeback for Michelle Larcher de Brito!?

She was good. Like I keep saying about Gauff, long term success takes tremendous mental toughness and your body has to hold up.
Bertens is a good example of someone who slowly kept improving, so is Halep, Kerber.
The players who are good at 14, 15 often arent the ones with the toughness and focus to keep competing no matter what
Maybe Gauff will be the one. de Brito looked like she would be a successful pro at 14, 15

I miss her a lot. Such a wasted talent.

I remember when she simply mauled Sharapova at Wimbledon - delicious

Another reason why AER should be kept or even tightened. Burnout and retired at 26.

Re: No Comeback for Michelle Larcher de Brito!?

De Brito’s hype at 14-15 years was unreal.
Also she was very annoying on court with her loud screams and had an hyperbasic game. Basically a C- grade version of Sharapova.

Times passes so fast. Sigh

ETA: Her popular nickname here was Louder De Grito (Grito = Scream in Spanish)
