wta's embarrassing social media 'marketing'

asking the players stupid questions like what's your favourite emoji or all those "going into the weekend like..." gifs... seriously are they aiming this to 13 year old white girls?

I dont think those things hurt, or help. Its just for fun.
They dont have to do much promotion right now, just let people know where the current tournaments are. This is a downtime week
They have that stuff available for a slow week

Wanna talk about their livescoring? There were 2 doubles matches cancelled today, first one was not updated like for 30 minutes and people were waiting for the players (Bara/Tig) before they saw that the staff took the ref equipment, second one (Bolsova) got cancelled and started appearing for today in the schedule, crazy

Emojis are lame.

They need to do bikini calendars every year.

What being white (or black/or green) has anything to do with it?

Everything. You know only 13 year old white girls would find these wta promos good. Don't play stupid.

Re: wta's embarrassing social media 'marketing'

It's useless to add race card into the opening post cause subject debate about WTA marketing could be interesting and I would like to hear some opinion of people who have some experiences with the marketing.

WTA is indeed in much worse marketing position than ATP when we have 3 all times great playing together in one time (which is better than any possible marketing strategy). Maybe it's just me but what I miss in WTA marketing is to promote current established players. Halep, Barty, Pliskova, Kvitova etc ... current consistent players which actually are creating WTA presence are in shade of WTA desperate need to look for new future stars and so we have almost like each 2-months new newbie which receive more WTA marketing space than TOP players of presence. For example, Coco Gauff had much more space on WTA website than current GS winner, number#1 on her continuous winning streak after FO. I'm not saying WTA should stop promoting future ... but they should not forget we have also some presence. I see a lot of possibilities in so many interesting stats (oh my gosh so many numbers are collecting in matches) ... a lot of possibilities for the relevant tennis reviews of matches, a lot of possibilities to bring players like Barty, Bertens close to fans with their personal stories, their feelings, etc. There is really a lot of space to promote the actual presence of this sport much better ...
messing and csillag like this.

I really don't think the OP does. It's a legit question from someone non-white, questioning the marketing schemes of the WTA. It's incredibly childish and dumb who they think their target audience is.

Oh well. For me, it's really narrow who they try to appeal to. Makes them (WTA players) look stupid. In all fairness, the ATP ads are also stupid and brotastic.

I think they're cute and fun. I really like them. But to appeal to younger demographics they need to get rid of the AER. I like younger players dominating women's tennis like Seles, Hingis, Sharapova. We really need the next generation to shine through like Amanda, Alona, Dayana, Naomi and Bianca.
