You heard it first here, I predicted this after the first round matches! Sevastova with a thriller against Bogdan and young mother Țig very solid and motivated against Anna Bondar.
Nastija played pretty poorly today (especially in the first set), barely any first serves and her backhand was leaking errors. But it was still a very entertaining match, and full credit to Tig. I was especially impressed at her defence and then how well she was able to turn that into attack. Was she dropshotting this much in her previous matches? I often notice when someone plays Seva they will start doing it a lot as well.
Wonder what she said to her at the net? (No drama, it looked like some nice words).
I don't think Sevastova was playing poorly at all, but also I also don't think she's 100% in her best shape. Today the Latvian was better than 2 days ago, but met a player with great power.
She reached WTA final at Baku, losing in 3 sets to Gasparyan. I think she plays much better than before. Tall girl with great power, still young, plays extra-motivated for her new born baby. I expect her to enter at least top 60 if she's really ambitious.
In the 2nd set Tig, trying to get to a drop shot, she slid on the dirt and fell rather hard on her butt. Apparently, she injured her left wrist in the fall, but she didn't seem hampered when play resumed.
Tig is unranked, but was ranked #108 in 2016, and is 24y/o.

No, no way. Her best run has been at Madrid 2016 Premier Mandatory: R1 6-3 4-6 6-2 vs Kasatkina, R2 6-2 6-3 vs Sloane Stephens, R3 6-3 6-4 vs Madison Keys, QF 3-6 4-6 vs Sam Stosur.
Another good run has been at Miami 2017 Premier Mandatory: wins in R1 vs Heather Watson, R2 vs Kiki Mladenovic, and lost in R3 vs Venus Williams.
Win against quality (TOP 20) opponent by unranked player. Bellis against Cibulkova was the last one or CiCi was ranked back then? If not it must be Clijsters.
I remember tig from a few years back when she made a run to the QF of Madrid beating Sloane and Madison back to back and thought she'd have a solid career so it's nice to see her back and doing well as a new mother. Good luck to her
Amazing win for her. Upsetting the world #11 in straight sets. Impressive.
She is talented. A pity that her career was stopped. I hope that now she is back !
I checked and she is making her comeback this year, hadn't played since 2017, also gave birth to a baby girl last year. So she joins the WTA mommy comeback club with the likes of Azarenka, Serena or Rodina.
Didn't watch the match but she did beat a top 20 player (almost top 10) so that's a pretty big deal and she's still very young actually at 24, and she seems to have had some great results in the past, so maybe a player to keep an eye out for.
Don't know if this is her first main draw WTA tournament since 2017, but the fact she was unranked makes me think it is, so it would be quite the comeback if say she actually went all the way and won this tournament.
