Outstanding new comers at this Wimbledon

I discovered 3 players at this Wimbledon. Hope this was not just a one time performance.
Kaja Juvan
Karolina Muchova
Coco Gauf

I expect to see the first 2 in the top-100 by the end of this year... and Coco in about 2 years.
Who were your revelations?

Special note to my girl Kuzmova: I believe she played the best tennis of her career in that losing effort. Sometimes, you just need a bit of luck.

Gauff. She reminds me a lot of Venus in her younger age and I expect Gauff to win multiple slam titles in the coming years.

I would also add Jorovic to the list. I was surprised at how well she played and competed against Riske. She can easily be top 50 if she builds on that type of play.

Daniela Hantuchova.

Casey Dellacqua, Jelena Jankovic, Anna-Lena Groenefeld,
Jelena Dokic, Mirjana Lucic, Sara Tomic, Sloane Stephens
Melanie Oudin, Zarina Diyas, Kaia Kanepi, Alison Riske

Re: Outstanding new comers at this Wimbledon

I swear Muchová is the most popular player on this forum atm .

Juvan is already 111 in live rankings too, and even Gauff is at 140, so all three have a good chance to be top 100 by the end of the year. It is nice to have some up-and-coming talent though. Muchová and Gauff proved they have game and resilience (especially the former). I wasn't particularly impressed with Juvan's game, but she came into the Williams match like she expected to win and fought the whole time, which is different from sooooo many players in that scenario. And it was her first time ever facing a top fifty opponent .

My number one: Victoria Azarenka

ATP: Novak Djoković

Crazy Frenchies: Gilles Simon Alizé Cornet

Re: Outstanding new comers at this Wimbledon

I would say the best player besides the 2 finalists was Riske. This major was quite the shitfest and almost Riske/Halep and Halep was getting rolled by Zhang until a point from 15 she started playing well
I dont think it showed newcomers besides Gauff. It showed how players can play like shit any round at a major. Some terrible loses by seeded players

The most wasted of all days is one without laughter....
Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there
Enjoy This Moment!!
HEALTH and HAPPINESS to EVERYONE

Re: Outstanding new comers at this Wimbledon

I haven't seen any outstanding newcomer in this Wimbledon. I've seen a very young and promising one - outstanding relatively to her age, but with a marge of improvement prior to become truly outstanding: Cori Gauff.

I've seen some outstanding tennis (or impressive striking if you prefer) from Yastremska who was a newcomer last year. This year she's only in phase of confirming the promises. She was beaten by the more experienced and consistent Zhang Shuai.

As for outstanding tennis alone, we've seen that at any age, with generations span of 30 years, and that's great.

Who cares of hypertrophic weapons when the player on the court moves like music?

Kaja Juvan is actually one of newcomers with probablly has least hype going on even though she was one of best juniors in last years (together with Potapova, Yastremska, Danilovic, Swiatek etc.). I honestly didnt find her game too much exicting but lately I am really seeing how much she is improving from every match to every match. The way she played against Serena really surprised me. Her serve got so much stronger and faster and also her grounstrokes are getting better each time I see her. She also showed great fighting spirit, was believing she can win also when Serena had 3 MPs. One thing not a lot of people know is
that Juvan isnt totally focused on tennis at moment. She is actually finishing high school and in one of last interviews she actually said she will probablly skip US Open (not sure if still true considering great run at Wimbledon). She actually seems to be smart girl cus she said she wants to have plan B (in case her tennis career wont work out). Also, last months she didnt really practise so much because of all studying for upcoming exams and she admited that in some matches she ran out of power which actually could be true (losses against Cirstea, Zidansek, also Serena were all tight 3-setters). After she graduates, next season she will totally focus on tennis. Maybe slow progress is actually better than jumping on big scene fast and then decline like it happened to many youngsters. Anyway, she is probablly the most talented Slovenian player since Srebotnik. Hopefully she will achieve even more than Kata did. 🙂
zigga and evypatton9 like this.

Polona Hercog - Ashleigh Barty - Barbora Strycova - Angelique Kerber - Petra Kvitova - Naomi Osaka - Samantha Stosur - Su-Wei Hsieh - Kaja Juvan - Dalila Jakupović
