Lets pay some respect to Simona Halep

A player who has a lot of fans and haters. She will play her 5th grandslam final. She is 1-3 in finals and simonas career will be more of what if she held her nerves in those lead she had in the 3rd set vs caro and jelena.

Her career is full of ups and downs, openly spoke about dealing with pressure and nerves. Never had argument with an umpire, never beef with a player or say anything controversial. Just pure professional tennis player competing against bigger and stronger players.

Its unlikely she beats serena in final if serena wins her semis and she will get slaughtered again. But today lets just pay some respect for the longest ranked top 10 player right now

Re: Lets pay some respect to Simona Halep

Yes, 5 slam finals is a very good number. Now if she can win this, she really moves up the ladder and past Kvitova Muguruza and maybe Azarenka
She still has a shot to be considered 2nd best to Serena 2010-2020

Um she beat Azarenka, it-girl Gauff, and top eight Svitolina. Ignoring that players reach slam finals all the time without being a top eight opponent, including Serena Williams if she gets there, the first two were tough mental tests too considering they came into the match with lots of form/hype. Huge fail of a post.

My number one: Victoria Azarenka

ATP: Novak Djoković

Crazy Frenchies: Gilles Simon Alizé Cornet

Let's review, shall we?

I would not say Simona blew big leads vs Ostapenko because she had nothing to do with getting those leads in the first place. She was a sad spectator in that match.

The only lost final she can feel sorry about is the one against fellow pusher Wozniacki when she felt victim to Caro's MTO with Simo leading by a break in the decider.

On the other hand, the only Slam final she has won, she was down set and a break vs Sloane who for some dumb reason stopped playing.

Halep is notoriously bad in finals. She is 3-9 in last 12 overall and 1-3 in Slams. What's the big deal of making the final if you can't win it?

No thanks... hope Screamona gets dragged in the final. Her game winning Wimbledon would be a huge FAIL to the tour.

She simply did beat players who peaked in that bottom section in that tournament and went far ... Osaka, Venus, Keys, Pliskova, etc. all failed against stronger opposition on the given day.

But I know that trick ... For example, Gauff is a future megastar with the complete adult game, Azarenka finally found her groove but when their games are dismantled by Simona, they are nobodies suddenly.

Petra Kvitova
Double champion of Wimbledon

Karo Pliskova Naomi Osaka Lucka Safarova Eka Makarova Qiang Wang Venus Williams

Simona Halep Angie Kerber Anett Kontaveit Mona Barthel Kiki Bertens Katka Siniakova

She beat a washed up former top player (what hype/form have you invented for Azarenka?) a 15yo Slam debutante and a nervous player in her Slam SF debut? Let's not pretend her draw has been above MM level.

This is similar to the point Louisa Thomas makes about Simona in her piece about her, in the New Yorker. She's someone in whom we are gifted, to be able to see in her how difficult the emotional component of the game is. The physical component of Simona's game is, in my view, unquestionable. It may well win out against Serena -- the game's most dominant athlete, only now not at her best. But it's her emotions I love -- because she's so clearly human, and so clearly decent. For me -- one of the great sportswomen of our time.

Yes she has had many setbacks. But she keeps battling and fighting. Consistenscy deserves respect. Again she is 5'5 and not as powerful as many girls. But she keep fighting and has made a very good career for herself

Um this forum had a whole thread about Azarenka possibly winning the tournament (where I responded saying she'd lose to Halep) and the commentators on Tennis Channel where I watched predicted Azarenka would win until Halep went up 4-3. Not to mention it was on Center Court because people were expecting a very competitive match until Halep played too well.

And that post is coming from a Svitolina stan, which is hilarious on a couple levels

Azarenka did nothing but shit her pants in that match...that was a horrific performance filled with wild errors.... nothing much to brag about beating an opponent who played that terribly
