Re: Wimbledon R4: Riske d. (1) Barty 3-6, 6-2, 6-3

Riske 2019 = Rybarikova 2017.

Barty and her cakewalk draws finally come to an end. Ran into an experienced and superior grass courter on the day and was suddenly looking dazed and confused, poor thing.

World #1 with 0 Top 10 wins at a GS, just 4 second weeks reached at a GS, and just two GS QFs to her name. It is what it is, but things like this are part of the reason why the WTA #1 ranking is no longer an authoritative judge on who the very best player is. The WTA doesn’t have a best player, and hasn’t had one since Kerber in 2016.

Formerly hurty, ELISE-GOAT.

Re: Wimbledon R4: Riske d. (1) Barty 3-6, 6-2, 6-3

I've barely watched Riske ever, but I love her mind set it's so aggressive, constantly looking to come into the net and redirecting the ball so well. She has such a nice grass court game. This was a proper grass court match because the serve was so crucial, you knew when Barty got broken in the final set that Riske was going to win it (unless she choked). So different from the usual WTA matches we see.

It has to be said Barty seemed a bit absent from the first game of the match. She won the first set but it was only because Riske was hitting sloppy UEs, and also Barty's serve was on fire. But in the 2nd set Riske tidied up her game and I think that panicked Barty a little bit because her serve deserted her. I think this last month caught up with her (who can blame her? FO champion + #1 in the world + and 15 match winning streak all pretty much within 4 weeks)

Re: Wimbledon R4: Riske d. (1) Barty 3-6, 6-2, 6-3

Riske was excellent today after a poor start. Kept great depth, hit through the ball with great intent. Barty's slices didn't really work for her as much today, as Riske kept her well on the backfoot. Barty was serving ultra well but that dissipated as the match wore on and I knew she'd get nervous. Riske took her chances today and made them count. Well done!

I really wanted to see Barty play Serena but Riske's QF Wimbledon run is a great story too, and if she plays like today maybe can give Serena some trouble.

Well done to Simona Halep on finally achieving her GS dream at RG. Never say die!

Serena won't be able to beat her I have to say I was hoping for Ash. Her balls are too deep and flat the balls that Serena hates and she's way more consistent now. Serena would have to serve well , move well, hit well, basically at her peak

TBH, Riske was overdue for such a deep run at Wimbledon.

Only 6 UEs in Swt 2 and 3 combined, that's a massive achievement.

Great play by Riske executed play perfectly after that first set. That's Barty without a serve I guess? Still competitive and fun match in some parts

Not impressed with Barty's game one bit. Reminds me of Dinara Safina.

Oh well, it's a step up from losing to Svitolina and Kasatkina. Still Pliskova-esque at Wimbledon though.

Riske is in the form of her life She always needs some time to settle but no choking and brilliant winners. She will probably lose to Serena but great run

Barty's run had to come to an end eventually She is very consistent but obviously not invincible and Riske was a very tough opponent here, probably the first she faced in a while.

Riske was the better player all match. Even in the first set. The issue riske had in the first set was her return. The way riske redirected the ball down the line was so impressive.

Barty just walked out and didnt even sign anything, was surprised by that. Dont they walk out together, she just bolted.

Re: Wimbledon R4: Riske d. (1) Barty 3-6, 6-2, 6-3

Alison

Best match of her career, that's for sure.

Just has such an exceptional game on the grass. Didn't even choke this one away, I just hope she has got her choking behind her now. 14-1 on the grass this season now

I've always been a fan of her demeanour and sportsmanship and attitude on the court, but wow, this match may have just made me a fan of Riske. Grass court specialist and it showed today, just has the perfect game for the court. Was by far the better player in the last two sets. Didn't even face a single break point in the last two sets. 30W/15UE.

Ash just got outsmarted today, though obviously she didn't play very well in the last two sets. Alison broke down her game, though - the way she dealt with Barty's BH slice was just sublime. Barty was a little too passive in the last two sets though and really let Riske dictate play too much here. Unfortunately for her, I think the mental fatigue probably got to her after that long winning streak - just couldn't get her game together in the last two sets but Riske peaking probably the cause of that, too. Her serve also let her down in the last two sets, 10 aces in the first set but only 2 combined in those two sets

Alison deserves this so much - a grass court specialist without a Wimbledon QF doesn't do her grass court prowess justice. Love it. I hope for her to win it, if Serena or Petra doesn't.
