Ruse looked like the likely victor for the majority of the match. Her serving was outstanding and she matched Caro‘s shotmaking and looked incredibly confident. She did not face a bp in the first two sets. She had two chances for a break at 5-5 in the second set.
She became too passive in the TB and Caro took it in her hands and did not let go, while Ruse could not sustain her level.
Very commendable for Caro to fight through and inspired opponent in such a game environment. Next up is her nemesis Jen Brady, so it will be interesting if she can take any confidence from this clash.
Hopefully Ruse will be getting some chances to play on grass. Her match against Radwanska was so fun to watch last year at Wimbledon.
Is Ruse a hidden talent? She played so well for the first two sets, and #FlyWithCaro did so well to hang in there, saving several break points late in the second and then taking over the match in the tiebreak. Garcia's better form during the clay season and battles in Strasbourg definitely helped her through this match, and it's good to see her rebounding from the disastrous French Open. Now please don't lose to Jennifer Brady yet again .
Ruse was so solid after getting that break in the first game, I thought it was hers to lose.
Well done to Caro for fighting through it against a player who really wasn't making many mistakes in the first two sets. One thing i've noticed is that her backhand has been SO much stronger than her forehand this week. If she loses to Brady again in the next round...
one can wonder why she bothered given she'll meet Brady in SF . Might as well give a WO
I was being sarcastic- goog that Caro found a way out of this tricky one , kept solid on serve and eventually smoothly prevalied in the third
I hope she can FINALLY find a way to beat Brady too nothing against her but basically the girl does nothing (much) on tour apart from beating Garcia
