Definitely not us, but their team surely knows and they are that stupid to let everyone know well in advance

This thread shows how out of touch and fueled by hate TF is Read through the hundreds of tweets and you’ll see she has the backing of 99% of them, as well as 100% backing from her peers.

You queens telling me you would turn down £20k out of principle? Pur-lease

Does it look good? No. But players, who are quite obviously unfit to compete, limping around for 20 minutes of a GS first round match for the pay check looks a lot worse.
They can prevent that by forfeiting the prize money whosever is unable to finish the 1st Round match. If they really get injured, that's too bad.

Giving them 50% for doing nothing is unfair for LL as well.

Then you'll see players dragging around the court their injured asses, getting double bageled and later on suing the WTA when their injuries are aggravated

There's no perfect solution, imo what they currently have is the best compromise. LLs should count their blessings that they even get half the money and another chance. They have a chance at a significantly bigger paycheck if they can actually win the R1 match.

Evidence that there's too much money in this sport and they need to do something about it. It's ridiculous that players are getting paid for doing nothing. It really makes me not want to pay to watch matches.

I don't judge her for this.

If your not at the top, making ends meet on tour can be tough.

It's not a great decision, but hey, you do what you gotta do.

And the player that missed out, well, there ranking just wasn't high enough.

Hear, hear.

It used to be a privilege to play a slam.

According to a quite a few posters here it’s fine to have zero integrity. Accordingly to some of them players should apparently just tank the whole year bar the slams. X player withdraws from Rome in the 2nd/3rd round for no good reason “Correct decision, she doesn’t want to be tired/injured for RG” which is over a week and a half away at that point. It’s ruining the sport, and some of them can’t get enough of it for some reason.

They just love talking about money. Bunch of twats <img src="https://www.tennisforum.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Laugh Out Loud" class="inlineimg" />

Easy solution to this issue. Only 1st round winners and beyond get paid. No $$$ for 1st round losers nor for winning qualies.

It make the matches more competitive especially 1st round, if winner get $$$ and loser gets nothing.

Much ado about nothing. Go get that purse Katie, even at Wimbledon if you are unable.

I don't think Katie Boulter falls into the 'making ends meets on tour can be tough' group of players - she's a Brit with a lot of LTA support, she's from a very posh village, she's played the piano (a signifier of the bourgeoisie in Britain if ever there is one) and appeared in Vogue, it's clear from her Instagram that she is sponsored by Nike and Wilson, she presented an award at the Sport Industry Awards in Britain, looked very glam, plus she has been linked to Jack Sock who is not short of a bob or two either.

According to this article, she was originally drawn to play Donna Vekic before she pulled out. Maybe she was hoping to get Janicijevic and then realised this was likely to be a mauling so said nahhh.

She has been defended by Nick Kyrgios, but then he did the same thing as her!

Katie, with the ranking she has now, could be on the receiving end of this in slams to come, Yes what she did was 'within the rules' but so were many of our MPs with their expenses and their reputations are still in tatters!

The reason this rule was introduced was that players affected by it do NOT make enough money.

Not only is it "within the rules", it is within the spirit of the rules.

Although it would be better to allow players to withdraw before Q and let an alternate enter MD instead.

It wasn't within the spirit of the rules. The rules are supposed to discourage players from withdrawing during first round matches who are not fit to play. But they are clearly meant to be used by players who are making a last minute decision, who are 50-50 on the eve of the tournament, not for someone who has told the media she would pull out weeks ago and never had any intention of playing and just got the Eurostar from London to pocket some cash. Did Katie do any training in Paris at the stadium or practice matches to see whether she was up to playing? As far as I am aware, she just turned up to see Katie Swan play, see the doctor and collect the cheque. And avoided journalists because she had a guilty conscience and did not want to face the music.

This is just you guessing, now, Steven. if a player is 50/50 to play, surely they would still be likely to give it a shot and play.
