Too funny watching Help get dragged to the net over and over and being clueless. Marketa was a genius today and totally exposed Simone with her drop shots.

Having said that Vondrousova has such a weird technique, her backhand looks super stiff but it actually works. Her forehand reminds me of Gulbis, she adds so much spin to it.

2 match a day for Simona, she said no, great.
Now, we'll see at RG.

Vera Zvonareva Simona Halep Martina Hingis

Marketa is one of the dark horses for Roland Garros

->Katerina_Siniakova • Naomi_Osaka • Mandy_Minella <-

What I read here, only confirms my thoughts from match against Kiki. Simona is laughingly bad at the net, lacks any kind of variety and can't handle well-implemented one. Probably the worst top5 player in history of tennis in terms of net skills.

I was there. walked out after the first set. It was pretty boring. As a big Halep fan, I was disappointed although she won that first set. I didn't see the usual Halep. Her shots were too soft. All she was doing was move her opponent around. Vondrousova was the one trying to make something happen. She was the one trying to go for big shots and end the points but she was missing a lot.
I couldn't sit there and watch. Too boring. I was hoping Halep would win anyway the way it was going.
Yeah, Halep can play better tennis than this.

Halep picked up points in Madrid right? Not sure if she lost some here probably not that many. She's prety passive in Rome and against a good and motivated player + rain delays it's only natural a loss was possible

She had enough matches for RG even though she lost this one it still counts as preparation and playing a second same day would have been dangerous

If I did my math right, she earned 800 points at Rome-Madrid in 2018, and 651 this year.

She also had QF points from Stuttgart last season, and none this year.

Marketa has all the weapons, including the best drop shot in the WTA.

Marketa !

Beat Simona again. Head To Head now 2-0 for Marketa
Simona is a very good match-up for Marketa. She can't overpower her.

Halep

Another very disappointing performance from her. She looked clueless ...
Why does she not come to the net and finish her points there ? Must improve that ...

It was shocking to see how effective those drop shots were, again and again. I suspect that we will see more players attempt them on clay against a Simona who sits deep and hits in the middle of the court. Not every player has Vondrousova’s touch, but it seems easier than trying to hit through Simona on clay.

Truly exposed by both her and Bertens, for all the other players to see She needs to figure something out at the French, or she'll get dropshoted and sliced to death. It doesn't help that her mind doesn't seem to be in the right place right now, usually she's better at anticipating

Re: Rome R2: Vondrousova exposes Simona Halep once again 2-6 7-5 6-3

The "Queen of Clay" gets completely schooled by a 19-year old, again. I continue to be amazed Simona has ever been a relevant player when she has no real tennis skills. All she can do is grind, and she can't even do that very well, since she's always "tired" or "injured". Of course her fanbase is ready with the excuses about playing 2 matches in a day. Just the prospect of it was too much for Simona, coming off a long week in Madrid. I guess that's why Bertens lost her first match too. Wait...

And now we get to hear about how Rome doesn't matter. It's all about Paris. LOL
Regardless of her draw, Simona's not getting past the 4th round. The odds of her facing a good player in the first four rounds who can expose her nothing game are extremely high. Also, she's due for another first round flop (Already has more than twice as many as any other top-5 player), and she'll easily crack under the pressure of defending a Slam title. Might as well create the thread now about the defending RG champ losing in the first round two years in a row.

Vondrousova has a lot of talent, it was obvious to see today with her drop shots and all. Compare and contrast to what was happening on the other side of the net - whew!
I've not caught a lot of live tennis this past 18 months, but Marketa seems like the real deal in terms of talent, physically has moved on nicely since her mid teens. Gotta admire the Czech production line of players.
