Re: Playing two matches in a day, good or bad?

it's been balanced for almost everyone BUT the problem is each player on court has the potential to play 6 sets in one day. Then they ask them to come back tomorrow. How much rest will they get for the following day? Will everyone be asked to play in the evening session? Unlikely. This makes it rougher than a GS 5 set men's match in some ways as you don't get that break.

I can tell you that if a match lasts 3 hours, it is unlikely that player won't be half dead appearing on the court the next day in under 20 hours.

Well done to Simona Halep on finally achieving her GS dream at RG. Never say die!

Li Na | Carla | Sloane | Venus | Kerber | Dasha

Evonne Goolagong-Cawley - Australian Legend: 14 GS - 7 singles

Dare to dream!

Yes, if she wins she'll be scheduled to play the fourth match on the Pietrangeli court.

Re: Playing two matches in a day, good or bad?

Is this even debatable??
Obviously bad. Too demanding physically for players. Imagine 2 matches that go distance about 3 hours each. Plus potentially more matches if up in doubles draw as well.
And then tomorrow another one, no rest day.
If this was good, then women would play 5 sets.

For organization is bad also, having no play for a day (so people should get their money refund normally) and then the schedule messed up for the following days.

5 of 6 matches so far are 3-setters. Some players may be worn out by the end of the day.

5 of 6 matches lasted at least (around) 2 hours (4 of them still not finished and can go to 3 hours).

Harder for the older players. Serena's probably glad to be out of it and Venus now only has to play once against someone who's just played (currently still playing) a tight 3 setter.

People always act like any sort of rain delays/schedule changes are a crisis these days. In reality, rain has affected tennis tournaments for a hundred years and I've rarely seen it seriously impact the final outcome. If someone plays such an exhausting match that they can't rebound for the next one, it probably wouldn't make a difference whether that next one is later in the day or the next day.

My number one: Victoria Azarenka

ATP: Novak Djoković

Crazy Frenchies: Gilles Simon Alizé Cornet
