The BBC weather forecast for Rome is saying a 3% chance of rain tomorrow.

Do only three courts have lights? I hope that is the reason they aren't at least trying to also play on the outer ones.

Tournaments have also been dealing with rain for all of tennis history though . One day of it should not necessitate moving indoors.

My number one: Victoria Azarenka

ATP: Novak Djoković

Crazy Frenchies: Gilles Simon Alizé Cornet

^ big problem is rome being a combined event, so schedule could get screwed much more easily if there is a washout day.

They should move doubles to those indoor courts. Does this mean that R3 an QF will be played the same day? Saturday and Sunday look miserable as well.

Asian events routinely use indoor courts when the weather becomes unbearable. I'd love to see an ITF demand that ATP and WTA tournaments can't get approved without at least SOME contingency plan for weather. Even Wimbledon joined the modern era somewhat

Play is cancelled for today.

Have fun with all those refunds, caro Binaghi!

This year's title should not be given to anybody. It's not a legitimate tournament anymore. Many players will retire. Just cancel the whole thing.

Re: Today's matches likely to be played indoor

Before roofs at majors, all big tournaments had these delays. They played a Wimbledon final on a Monday.
It means a great day for fans, and players who are out like Serena, Svitolina, they dont have to take the risk of 2 matches in one day so close to a major

The most wasted of all days is one without laughter....
Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there
Enjoy This Moment!!

in southern Europe you definitely don't expect to see terrible weather in the middle of May. I'm guessing this is the worst weather that the Italian Open has ever had, it's a fluke.

French Open on the other hand, has had horrible, awful weather for nearly all of the past 10 years... much worse than Wimbledon.
