Re: Roland Garros Wild cards announced

I feel like people have this discussion every major....and I see both sides. Federations are going to give a majority of their players WC's. It's a guaranteed payday, and maybe for one of them a chance to continue on with the financial help, or an opportunity to compete against a much higher level of competition, to see where they need to be. But yeah... I will say, I hope some of my fave's gets one of these walking byes in the 1st round

France is one of the 4 HISTORICAL tennis country to have a SLAM. Live with it and stop with the "oh my God this one would have deserved one! what a scandal! apocalypse is for tomorrow!"

VERY HAPPY for our young prospects who also NEED R1 MONEY to work in order to have a professional career TOO!
As much as I can agree people complain too often for anything... an international slam would be all the more admirable without national favoritism...

but logic for logic, why the WC system while they're at it. In the end you know they complain for the wrong reasons.

Who cares of hypertrophic weapons when the player on the court moves like music?

Quite terrible selection of wild cards. If you don't have enough players in the top 250, you should limit the home WCs to four and give MDWCs to other deserving players, like Wimbledon does. I really don't think players outside the top 300 should ever get WCs into grand slam main draws unless they are a) top juniors b) ex top players coming back from injury etc. Parry and Selena J are juniors ranked 9 and 29 respectively, so only Parry can be called a top junior; Selena has won a total of one senior match, against Lechemia in a $15k in France, so how is she ready for a GS, I wouldn't give her a QWC either. They should give at least one WC to a player who has done well in the clay season but will have to qualify - the obvious choice here is Jil Teichmann, the Prague winner - whose reward for this is the main draw of Wimbledon on grass - a surface and event she has studiously avoided her whole senior career in favour of clay! The WC swap candidates are better, but that whole system is corrupt, and the French certainly do not deserve WCs into three slams with this current motley selection of players.

I wonder how many bagels and baguettes the FFT boulangerie will serve up, I can see all these six not winning more than five games per match, come back Stephanie Cohen-Aloro, all is forgiven!!!

Yes we need to find out who bribed FFT to not give Alize Lim a well earned MDWC. This is corruption at the highest level

Amandine has all the rights to be furious about these and people are being supportive on social media.

Why so mad? I would also agree to get double bageled for 46K Euros! They should draw some of these scrubs like Selena Janicijevic against each other for even more fun.

I agree with you. She should have at least got a QWC. I think she is capable of winning a round in the qualifying, Selena J has no WTA ranking and is ranked something like 1337= ITF ranking!

Re: Roland Garros Wild cards announced

Lol @ Selena Janicijevic getting a MAIN DRAW WC WHAT???!!! She doesn't even deserve a qualifying WC at this stage!!! Girl has won ONE match at the professional level. Like...they really chose a MDWC for her?! Dodin could have at least gotten a QWC instead of her! And what about Bacsinszky?!

Anyway rooting for Venus or Svetlana or AKS or Vera or Andrea or Azarenka to draw some of these walking bye WCs in the first round instead of a player who's actually good!!! (But you just KNOW Janicljevic is gonna end up drawing Parry or something...)

I do like that they're trying to prioritize juniors with their wildcards, but at this stage they could have given the MDWC to Manon Leonard who actually has some form of experience

Sloane and Venus and Su-Wei and Angie and Aryna and Donna and Danielle and Pavs and Alize and Margarita and Amanda and Elise and Kiki B and Xinyu and Anett and Kaia and Cici and Mandy and Petko and Lauren and Naomi and AKS and Vera and Shelby and Eugenie and Serena
Rooting for the skinny legends of the WTA!

Dodin should change nationality, so petty from the FFT.

This scrub can't be real. She's been struggling all year and even had a 7 match losing streak across ITF and WTA 125K level. Just because some other scrubs got given WCs doesn't mean she needs one, too. Especially when she was awarded one from 2014-2018. The scrub lost 1&1 in 2018, 1&0 in 2017, 2&1 in 2016, and also got killed by Stosur in 2015 2R 0&1.

Seems like the FFT have realized she's going nowhere and has divested her of support, which is encouraging. Sorry Amandine, no more free cheques for mediocrity

To be fair, you do have 5 women in the main draw by right this year, which is decent. Depending on how Watson does in Japan W60 this week, the 4-6 GB Wimbledon MDWCs will probably be collectively stronger than their French counterparts, but at least Ferro and Parmentier swapped their MDWC last year for a direct main draw place this year, which would generally be the long term hope when handing these 'rewards' out. Boulter has been unfortunate with illness and injury restricting her to only playing 6 tour events in 2019 and in normal circumstances would have used her WCs last year to establish herself in the top 100, but not many of the others have used their birth privileges to really push on.

As for the WCs, they are generally OK, Albie and Ponchet were performance based, Paquet ad Tan are just about respectable, and Parry is a young hope. The other youngster is a bit random and I'd never heard of her, but the options beyond that are a bit limited. Lou Brouleau seems to be a bit unfortunate to have missed out on a QWC as she has generally been in good form these past few months, but I guess her 2 and 2 defeat to Yerolymos last week did her no favours.

There was never really any chance of the likes of Bacsinszky ever getting one.
