Sabalenka - the fall cometh

Discuss...

Sabalenka did win a title this season in Shenzhen but after that...

Of course some of the names she lost to are tough, but comprehensively thrashed by Cornet? Or is she just terrible on clay?

Re: Sabalenka - the fall cometh

I had a feeling this thread was coming today

At this point Aryna is playing really poorly (granted, clay is by far her worst surface). She started the season promisingly but getting lashed by Amanda in Melbourne can't have helped her confidence. Lost a few tight ones to Bertens, Bencic and Kerber where she didn't play badly at all, especially in the Kerber match where she had patches of great tennis and probably should've won that match. Losing enough tight matches can't have helped and rumour has it she's on the rocks with Tursenov right now.

I think come grass season we'll see a better Sabalenka, but her patch from Eastbourne until Wuhan last year was pretty fantastic, week in week out. I have no doubt she'd have beaten Tsurenko and Keys to make the USO final if she had come through that match with Osaka. People were understandably hyping her up but it's pretty rare to see players keep up that consistency. She's really young though, so has time still to figure herself out.

As much as I dislike her for her banshee screams... she is young, give her time. I mean, can't remember players who did not have slumps at this age and and at some point of their career.

Re: Sabalenka - the fall cometh

Look I'm okay with the initiative here, but shouldn't a player first rise, truly rise, before we start talking about her fallen cometh?

I mean we're talking about a girl here who barely started her career, only has 3 titles so far, come on, give her time to at least rise before making a thread such as this one. What is happening right now are what we like to call growing pains and it happens to most young players. Look at Osaka after winning AO, didn't exactly have a great run afterwards did she? But that's all normal and no one right in the head would even begin to think of a Fallen Cometh for Osaka.

Tursunov was talking about this last week, about how they’re working on a long term plan and he expects some losses as they tweak her game (it could just be talk to cover up a slump though).

She hasn’t really broken the mould this year but before clay she lost to Kvitova, Anisimova, Bencic, Bertens, Kerber with Tomljanovic being her only bad loss. Clay just isn’t her thing yet.

Sabalenka’s hunger and potential is still there; just a matter of whether she will pick up herself and rewire her mental frame. It lets her down way too easily and no coach can fix that.

The Anisimova loss was far worse than the Ajla one

She can stay, and she will have my full support on Friday because I am a true Serena fan and I do not support people who oppose the Queens crown.

All the "fall comeths" threads are stupendously stupid. Such plain negativeness just belongs to immature ballparks.

Discuss.

Who cares of hypertrophic weapons when the player on the court moves like music?

Re: Sabalenka - the fall cometh

her game is good but also lacking any depth.

Girls are learning how to deal with her power and it will be more and more difficult for Sabalenka in upper echelons.

If she truly wants to be established top player her game will need to improve and evolve, there is no other way.

Actually yeah
I just feel like in a year or two it won’t look so bad.

I read that interview but it sounded like an excuse for her poor results lately. The thing is she shouldn't have been figured out quickly after one good season. Even Vaidisova had a steady rise and it took 3 years before everyone catched up with her.

Their partnership won't last long. Poor Dmitry.

She looks stressed , her faces shows it up. Tusurnov is not backing her up with that changeover they had in Indianwell before.
