I like the Bencic one.
I wish there was one for Bacsinszky. It should say something like: it takes pertinacity.

Wouldn't it make more sense if the 'It takes' was in a font and the different traits written with the marker?

Re: WTA Launches First Global Marketing Campaign In Four Years: 'It Takes'

How are black and white headshots of nameless players paired with a random buzzword supposed to promote women *tennis*? There isn't one racquet to be seen.

The ATP is very aggressive with its marketing and is going all-in with the Big Three and the #NextGen while you have the WTA promoting Khromacheva and Minella. Nice ladies but will never be household names. They tried something at long last but they needed something more memorable as they get ready to lose Serena and Maria.

The "My Story" vids are quite interesting, though.

I agree - it's pretty lame imo. I can't see how it's going to inspire anyone to watch or play tennis.

Re: WTA Launches First Global Marketing Campaign In Four Years: 'It Takes'

It takes... a proper marketing team. It's good that they're doing something but the execution is a bit disappointing. I don't understand why they're using still pics with virtually the same pose for each player. It doesn't tell a story or anything about the player (that's if you recognise them).

Hopefully this is just the first phase of the campaign. They have so much footage they could use to bring life to it. For example:

Venus & passion with a montage of her playing when she was a teenager through to her GS finals in 2017 and her recent matches. Show that she's still out there because she loves it.
Halep & resilience with a montage of her first three GS finals that she lost, ending with her lifting the trophy at FO 2018.
JJ & an entourage just that footage with her mum and their luggage in tow

The memes are fantastic though

Edit: They're using footage. They should get rid of the still pics ("it takes a smile" omg really??) and use these instead cos using both seems disjointed.

It's just...meh. Wonder how much they spent on the marketing campaign? There's nothing inherently wrong with it but it all seems rather insipid and uninspiring.

I looked at the WTA website, expecting that the campaign would take over the whole of the home page, or at least be a huge splash, but the announcement was relegated to 'Latest Videos' (not even Latest News ), which I had to scroll down to. I clicked on the link to the video but there was no video, just another link which I had to click on to get to the video (why?).

All I then found was a video with a rather wishy-washily voiced voiceover (and couldn't it have been a woman doing it?), telling me very little, a press release (yawn) and a link to Domi's video (which didn't display for me anyway) - and that was it.

If you're launching a new marketing campaign you really shouldn't make it that difficult for people to find your material.

Exactly. A global campaign that is run once in a blue moon should be the first thing you see on the website. If you scroll down the home page about two-thirds down, it's the featured story

It seems like they have different marketing teams and they don't talk to each other.

I didn't get that far so didn't see it - which says it all really. Why have it in two places on the home page, neither of which are remotely prominent?

If this is how you make money in communications we should set up in partnership because we certainly have more idea than whoever did this.
