Re: The Annual Horrible French Roland Garros WCs Thread!

I mean Bacsinszky is such an obvious WC specially with her story in this tournament but then it’s FFT so they probably rather wasting it on Hesse or any other hopeless local

It will be painful seeing her going through Qualifying when the competition for local WCs is specially dire this year.

I hope I’m wrong.

Re: The Annual Horrible French Roland Garros WCs Thread!

Paquet, Ponchet, Burel and Pary will probably get one, and it will be deserved. Albie will probably win one with her current results.

Only 2 left. Tan is in good form this year. So here's one. And probably Georges. Dodin is not getting anything sadly.

Others like Safarova and Bacsinsky deserve nothing. No need to waste a WC to players that didn't show particularly great form recently when you can give them to French prospects.

I first thought this was a thread about the toilets at Roland Garros. They aren't great, I hope they improve on that this year, especially for the ladies.

Re: The Annual Horrible French Roland Garros WCs Thread!

The thing that's so embarrassing about this situation is how bad French tennis is given the endless opportunities available to some players These girls have gotten free money and occasionally basically free points from random fluke wins and still have never been able to use these advantages to elevate their level out of 25K scrubbery. At least some of the Australian and USA girls have taken advantage of their undeserved privileges The federation really needs to have a big look at their pathways.

Tbf,Parmentier and Ferro, two of the recipients in recent years, managed to earn their spot as direct entries, which ofc makes this year WC situation more dire than usual with those two otherwise locks to get one not eligible.

Embarrassing if Lim and Reix don't get one. Amazing ball strikers plagured by injuries.

Re: The Annual Horrible French Roland Garros WCs Thread!

I'd go with Ponchet, Paquet and Tan and I don't think too many would disagree with those (as in there's definitely going to be 6 French WCs), Albie does look a lock based on results and the criteria they are using this year, so I'd be shocked if she wasn't included. It then gets trickier after that - Dodin has been mentioned by a few people on both threads and if she is fit enough then I think she should be included.

You'd have thought Burel would have been a lock in January and she obviously played the Aussie Open, but she's been injured and only played 1 match since the Australian summer, losing in qualifying.

I guess the French Feds have the same decision those at Wimbledon do with the similarly aged and ranked Raducanu regarding Parry and if it is a year too soon for her. She reached a 25k QF the other week, but then lost 1-6 2-6 in German W60 qualifying the other day. I'd be more inclined to wait a year and give her a QWC this year, but if they do offer her one, then some 'free money' as some say and a free hit at 70 points, plus good experience for someone who will surely be a focal part for the French at RG in the years to come, then it certainly wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

Hesse has lost 7 matches in a row and is sliding down the rankings, but Georges is still hovering around the 230 mark and has nothing to defend for a couple of months, so they may just play it safe(r) and award it to her.

A shame than this is not a Instagram contest but a tennis tournament though.

I'd rather watch'em over scrubs like Sorribers Scrubormo or Krunic assuming these two have the rankings to make the MD.

Re: The Annual Horrible French Roland Garros WCs Thread!

Once upon a time it was Wimbledon that was the slam that could not justify giving all of its WCs to local players. Even though most of the British girls are struggling for form you have to say that there is a lot more upcoming British talent than French. Maybe Roland Garros needs to implement a top 250 ranking rule like Wimbledon did and hand the rest of the WCs to the next in list.

At the moment, Ponchet leads that on 137 points, but Albie is on 134 and Paquet is on 104 and the only player still involved in an event this week (German W60) - not sure who is playing what next week, but it'll surely be one of those 3 taking that, unless someone picks up 40/50 points out of the blue.

There was also a mini race for points collected in French ITF events - the 80k event next week is the last of those and the last I saw, Albie had a commanding lead, but the link now says 'no longer found', so not sure if that has been scrapped, but with all this in mind, I'd be surprised if Ponchet, Albie and Paquet didn't get one. There's obviously one going to the USA and another to Australia, so there'll be 3 more up for grabs.

It is still going on . If you look down that WC thread I posted an update
