Did Kerber withdraw??? Her match with Vekic is cancelled and Vekic plays someone else...

Nevermind...I guess Kerber is now in Halep's spot. What a mess this tournament is turning out to be.

What will be her legacy?

Her on-court performances, her cover-up of a career on court using a performance-enhancing drug until she was caught and told the truth, or both?
Ed Hominan and Sinjo like this.

Did she? Isn't she still holding to the story that she used it for medical reasons rather than performance enhancement?

With all these absences, Maria has lost so much momentum and match practice. It will be surprising if she goes far in future tournaments even if she puts in the hours of training.

There is a form that players are supposed to use to declare any medications that they are taking. She (and her team) must have known about this form. Sharapova's use of meldonium, otherwise known as mildronate, was prescribed for an uncorroborated diagnosis of an alleged heart condition when she was a child. She continued to use the medication after the alleged heart condition was no longer an issue because it is performance enhancing. It increases exercise endurance and she never declared her use of the drug throughout her entire career. Ergo, she became a drug cheat when meldonium was banned and she was caught using it and all of her previous success is clouded in her use of this performance enhancing substance. She has not been able to compete at her previous level without the meldonium – that is clear.

I think she's done physically. And it's a no-brainer that she'd never win the same amount of matches again. She can't secretly use meldomium anymore to increase her endurance. That's right - she should have disclosed the use of the drug and didn't.

And pretty much everyone but her die-hard fans agree with these basic points. It's not just an endurance edge that's useful in matches, it's also in practice where she could hypothetically put in more work and more hours than clean players, translating back into more stamina during tough matches.

Daniela Hantuchova.

Casey Dellacqua, Jelena Jankovic, Anna-Lena Groenefeld,
Jelena Dokic, Mirjana Lucic, Sara Tomic, Sloane Stephens
Melanie Oudin, Zarina Diyas, Kaia Kanepi, Alison Riske

For real, has there EVER been a season where so many top players are withdrawing this much? This has to be a season record.

When u find concrete evidence of the effects of meldonium, pleaelse link the source. We are all still waiting for the study. Until then, you and all her haters have NOTHING to back it up.
