Miami R4: (21) Kontaveit def Andreescu 61 20 ret

A match too far for Bibi

Very pleased for Anett - she’s my pick for the semifinal from her quarter.

Well, that puts an end to the 'fake MTO' narrative.

That was a strange ending, and it must have been really hard for Andreescu to quit after this run. Understandable though. She hit many beautiful forehands, but Kontaveit was very strong. I do have to say Andreescu's health seems a little suspect though? I haven't watched most of her matches and she clearly is good at finding a way through, but since Auckland I've been reading about all her injuries on this forum…

This result goes to show that Vika's (and those few before her) Sunshine Double should be very highly regarded!

Weird way to end a match. Anett was exposing Bianca from the start. Will be interesting to see how Andreescu fairs against bigger hitters in the future. Looks suspect, tbh. Hype train off the rails for now.

No shame in ending your run Bibi.

Anett was good, quarter is wide open for her.

Anett deserves a legit win for once ffs but a QF!

Looks like it was just way too much for Bianca, and honestly, I'm not surprised. She already looked almost done in her previous matches against counterpunchers, had to be so much harder on her body against a hard hitter. Not to mention Anett was pretty much amazing today. She deserves a break.

Finally haters get something to celebrate.

WD to Anett and GL in the QF.

As for Bibi get some well earned rest and come back no earlier than Madrid.

Unlike the previous matches, even footwork looked lazy from the few games I watched...good thing that she retired instead of playing through that shoulder issue.

Sez you. She knew she couldn't win, and couldn't handle losing so she quit. Doesn't prove anything.

Annett handled those moonballs really well and she wasnt overhitting too much like usual. Very good strategy in this match for Annett.

Does it. Everyone has a nagging something in their body. Her antics are just delaying tactics. She knew she wouldnt win this one, so she quit.

If she couldn't handle losing...she probably would have quit in the first round itself when she was down by 2 breaks in 2nd set against Begu...your hate of Bianca is really hilarious.

Looked like petulant child quitting because she was not getting her way. But i am probably wrong. Her inexperience in this kind of situations is showing.

Re: Miami R4: (21) Kontaveit def Andreescu 61 20 ret

I said in a thread last week about Andreescu making Top 10 how she hadn't faced a truly in form aggressive striker and how that would be a big test for her, and even though she was clearly hampered today it was obvious how much more she struggled having time taken away from her. It's hard to get slices and moonballs into the corners when the balls are always at your feet coming hard and flat. Would have obviously been much more competitive if she was in a better physical shape but I think aggressive players at the top have a bit more of a blueprint now in terms of how to attack her game. Kontaveit also anticipated her variety and shot placement really well I thought.

QF vs Wozniacki/Hsieh is a really big opportunity for Anett! Seems quite crazy given how much less she has achieved in her career but if she did win that match she would probably overtake Kanepi's career high and become the highest ranked Estonian ever!
