Re: World No #1 battle in Indian Wells

Kvitova and Halep have played a lot and I wonder if they are up for another deep run(especially Petra) but the real question is how will Naomi come back? Another win would be amazing but a long shot surely with her current situation. Sloane is a total unknown as she’s hardly played and Karolina looked deflated after her viral illness and the Hseih loss.
Fascinating!

Re: World No #1 battle in Indian Wells

With Kvitova's loss today in Dubai Osaka's chances retaining No 1 jumped up pretty significantly:

# 1 Kvitova would need to reach the Semifinals at Indian Wells at a Tournament where she hasn't gotten beyond the QF to have a chance at # 1. Should Osaka win one Match she would need to reach the Final.

# 2 Halep would need to reach the Final to have a chance regaining # 1. That's not impossible but very difficult.

# 3 Pliskova & Stephens would need to win the Tournament. Sloane probably would need to pull a "Delpo" (Del Potro won Acapulco & Indian Wells in succession last year on the Men's Tour).

Not really. Her chance was going up in smoke after failing to win Dubai.

I wonder how Osaka will play in her first title defense. If she doesnt play well, its going to be a very close race going to Miami. This will be good!

Re: World No #1 battle in Indian Wells

I guess it's now up to the draw, maybe Halep and Kvitova would of recovered by then, and Osaka would have some coach who will hope to make an impact within a few days. Even if Sloane gets to no. 1 here, she can probably lose some gains in Miami. Interesting times - 2017.

Re: World No #1 battle in Indian Wells

I personally dont care about weeks at number one stat considering wozniacki halep safina has more weeks at number one with just 2 slams than venus and maria who have won 12 combined. So i care more about players resume consisting of slams than rome and madrid! I am hoping naomi just performs well at sunshine double. She most probably wont win it but make it to semis at both tournaments will be great. Though i hope she wins miami this time around. And she reached number one. So doesnt matters anymore!

Re: World No #1 battle in Indian Wells

So if Osaka loses her first match, Kvitova still needs at least the SF, and Halep needs at least the F to get to No.1?

I honestly thought this race would be even closer than that during IW.

We'll see what's gonna happen but I hope Osaka will find her game to go far.

Re: World No #1 battle in Indian Wells

I'd be quite happy with anyone of them besides Halep but I'd love to see Kvitova at #1 or Osaka retain it.
