Serena Wiliams should respect umpires, opponents, fans, linesmen, media, random drug testers and grass courts says everyone.

Do you realise that he brings 100 million euro profit every year to Madrid, one of the richest cities and capitals in Europe? Ion Tiriac is International Tennis Hall of Famer, inducted in 2013. He's one of the most known businessmen on the continent. Played 3 Davis Cup finals against United States, for your knowledges. Managed, coached or adviced one of the greatest players in tennis, from Villas, to Leconte or Becker, then Ivanisevic, Mary Joe Fernandez and Safin.

If you think his contribution to the sport wasn't major? - excellent tennis player; - coach; - advisor; -tennis manager; tennis investor (held tournaments in Germany, Romania, Spain etc) Ion is the guy who ran the ATP Finals in Hannover in the 90s, currently relocated to London.

I can name a few of his best friends: Wolfgang Porsche, Georges Marsan, Rudolf Streicher, Iñigo Herrera Martínez de Campos, Stefano Ricci, Franz Josef Rauch, Erich Hampel, Siegfried Wolf, Mark Miles, Boris Becker, Klaus Mangold, Alfred Baumhauer of Cartier Jewels etc.

Ion > French "Mourat"

Who did launch Mouratoglu to the highest level? He has only trained 2nd tier player, beside Serena Williams. He made a name on her back.

Re: Ion Tiriac should respect Serena Williams, says coach Patrick Mouratoglou

Tell me a top 10 player who was launched by Mouratoglu. A solid top 10 player who was there for years.

Tiriac trained before becoming agent/manager Ilie Nastase, Guillermo Vilas, Mary Joe Fernández, Goran Ivanisevic and Marat Safin.

Mourat is not over him not even in terms of coaching. Baghdatis, Pavlyuchenkova and Wickmayer. That's all besides Serena Williams. The others worked with him some months or a year. Mouratoglu is one of the most overrated figures in tennis.

Re: Ion Tiriac should respect Serena Williams, says coach Patrick Mouratoglou

Why did the others work for him only some months? Because he's that good? Don't forget Wim Fissette is a pretty good coach and doesn't have such great results lately, Mourat is the wondermaker? When nobody wants to work with him? Name a top player who wants to work with him.

Now he took this talented Tsitsipas, ALREADY TALENTED, wondering if he will bring him at least to the level of Dominic Thiem.

An awesome coach like Darren Cahill almost gets 0 recognition on TF, because he's not American or linked to the United States. Brought back Agassi to no 1 after major problems, produced Leyton Hewitt, launched Halep etc

Serena was already a 20-time singles champion in Slams, before Mourat.

The American magazines gives him more credit than to Brad Gilbert and others, also because he had a relationship with Serena. His name was also in tabloids.

Cheated on his wife who filled divorce because of an affair. Dumped his wife, dumped Serena, now that's celebrity.

For Serena it's more psychological and about not eating chocolate. She can be trained by any decent coach. She doesn't even need a coach, a hitting partner like Sasha Bajin would be fine. Yeah, Bajin is a lot more qualified than him. Sasha Bajin is a great sparring partner, ask Osaka, Sloane, everybody.

If the money invested in WTA was the main criteria, then none is more important than Xi Jinping Tiriac seems really cringeworthy to me.

Re: Ion Tiriac should respect Serena Williams, says coach Patrick Mouratoglou

If Moratoglou is responding, it means Serena heard/read what Tiriac said.
Serena gets along well with Halep, but this Tiriac dude must have complicated things for Halep. Now, not only Serena is hungry to win #24, she also wants to beat Tiriac, indirectly. I can almost guaranty there will be no slow start on Saturday. When she looks at the other side of the net Saturday, she won't see her friend Halep, she will see Tiriac ... and she will be in the mood to totally shut him up.

Tiriac doesn't like Halep.... Otherwise, he'd keep his mouth shut until after the match.
He should ask Sloane and Sharapova about their behavior following their last wins against Serena.
Serena is super pumped up when she sees those 2 at the other side of the net.

Tiriac, please get out of Halep's business. You just made things worse.

Re: Ion Tiriac should respect Serena Williams, says coach Patrick Mouratoglou

Tiriac also advices Halep from what I know and just won the Romanian federation's chair. I think he's just trying to motivate her. But I don't know why people are complaining, he has also spoken positively regarding Serena, and all what he has said negatively it's in player's favour. What did he say bad? That the sportsmen shouldn't be overweight. Too bad that he's too old to run the international federations and that he's sexist.

I wonder what are his opinions about the poor state of the ATP Tour. Because after Federer and Nadal will retire, the people will understand how bad is the level now on men. And many will migrate to the WTA (women).

He also ran the Romanian Olympic Committee 20 years ago or so, I think that also with positions in the international board.

I don't know about Romania. But here in the US, calling a woman "that old woman" is an insult.

Also, almost everybody that has worked with patrick has spoken ill of him. How unrealistic he is. It only works with serena cause serena has already unrealistic expectations of herself being a perfectionist. And everything serena has changed in her game is due to richard not patrick. Serena was working on her top spins with her dad during the off season prior to 2012. Mouratoglu owes his fame to Serena.
You always aim in life to do better than what you think you can do, it keeps you motivated.

When I started my new job, I knew it was unrealistic to climb up the ladder in short notice, but I worked hard regardless, and against odds, I got appointed faster than the guy that's been there for half a decade. It's obviously different for athletes, but you can never say something is unrealistic, because once you do, you're never going to think you'll be able to do it.

Concerning the coaching/manager career, Tiriac was not so bad after all, see one of the above posts (he used to work with some ATP N.1 bringing them to that ranking or guiding them to some Slams) while Mouratoglou took the one-time phenomenon called Serena Williams as a player already accomplished previously under the guidance of a certain Richard Williams.
Of course, Tiriac has no sweet tongue and may seem rightfully rude at times, but the guy knows a lot about tennis.
You can say what you want about Patrick, but he did improve Serena tremendously, as a fan I did notice all the improvements he did. She was more calm on court overal (minus her usual loud moments), started utilizing her other strengths more, improved her weaknesses and made the later part of her career even better than the first part.

I don't think without Patrick Serena would have won another French Open, because she was just too nervous every time she went to Paris, when he joined her team, slowly you noticed her being more and more relaxed at that slam, that's an important factor of a good coach, being the calm environment for them to thrive in.

Re: Ion Tiriac should respect Serena Williams, says coach Patrick Mouratoglou

I honestly believe that Tiriac's (and Natase's) comments about Serena has resulted in Serena always playing her best against Halep. Losing to Halep would make them so happy and that can't happen.

Tiriac is scum.

His comments are not 'she shouldn't have shouted at that umpire', his comments are always about weight and her 'having more power'...

It's racist, chauvinist bollocks and it's clear as day.

Thankfully, he's effectively a nobody outside the tennis world (and somewhat inside) while Serena Williams is the GOAT and a worldwide icon.

Balkan?? Why would he be known there? He's mostly known in Germany where he spend most of his life and more recently in Spain after moving his tournament there. I guess he's also known in the US a bit but mostly to older people who remember stuff like:
