In the presentation ceremony for the men's singles final between Alex De Minaur and Danil Medvedev at the Sydney International, the President of Tennis NSW reported the 2018 tournament had an attendance of 45,000.

If it is publicly confirmed, that is definitely the worst figure for the Sydney tournament since it moved to Sydney Olympic Park in 2000.

New place has 30 courts and it says stadium holds 65,000

The ability to host sponsors in plush, luxury suites which generate huge amounts of cash during the NFL season are also, predictably, attractive reasons for the switch.

“Stephen Ross is helping to progress the sport,” James Blake, the former world no4 who is the Miami Open’s new tournament director, told the Guardian. “A lot of the top players have been kept in the loop. They need to be happy and we need to make sure we don’t miss anything. The courts, facilities, the food , the locker rooms.”

The Rogers Cup was attended by 178 000 people. It includes the number of spectators that got to pick another session after two night sessions were cancelled. Only 3K short of the all-times record.

It's almost impossible because many journalists said they've never seen so many empty seats for this tournament. Halep vs Barty was played in a half-empty stadium. The record year of 2014 had the biggest buzz ever with Bouchard mania at its peak + Sharapova, Serena and Venus all in Montreal for a rare appearance.

The men had 150K ... and twice the prize money.

They probably hired the seat counters Arsenal FC regularly used during Arsene Wenger’s reign of terror:
