Okay, time to make a final statement about this thing:
I changed my username because I received a question from a Romanian journalist (after he posted the “affair”) because someone from this board took a screen picture of my post and put it on Twitter.
Here is how things unfolded:
As the Begu/Garcia match was going on (I had it on my TV and was on my computer at the same time), I was on Twitter and read some info about Begu being unfair in the MTO she took, etc. That was discussed by some French-speaking fans: I found these comments following a conversation about someone (profile deleted today) saying Garcia was angry with her opponent. This Twitter account can no longer be found, and that’s the person I relied on for this info. He/She said the elements I put in the thread, then seemingly corrected him/herself during the night, and then the profile disappeared this morning (it was called
mMarsToSaturn). I know it sounds like an easy getaway, but that is the truth.
After investigation, two things emerge: 1-there were actually negative words said by Garcia about Begu, and also insults for herself that people might have taken as actual insults 2-those words are not those I put in the thread and were not pronounced at the moment of the match I put in the thread.
My mistake was to go straight on tennisforum to post it without having heard the insult myself. If I had posted the other info, I would have posted the correct info – the ‘she runs like a rabbit/fake MTO’ thing. My mistake was to not double-check or look for the proof myself. I just thought it would turn into a thread where people laugh about the gossips and the bitch talk so characteristic of the WTA + the Fognini/Sousa verbal battle which was discussed here – we were in the midst of the Cibulkova talking about Sharapova thing at the same time.
The mistake made by other members of the forum was to post the thing straight away – putting my username without asking me first. TheBoiledEgg, Mikulescu and others put the info in their tweets without having checked the info. The issue nowadays, and that’s what I didn’t see coming, is that on Twitter everything escalates quickly. And “journalists” use elements which are not double-checked. I shouldn’t have published the info as if I was sure and for this I am sorry. I myself didn’t double-check what actually happened and I should have remained silent until the actual elements came out. I feel really bad about all this, for Garcia, for Begu, and for the forum. I relayed some info I read on twitter but nobody heard what I put between inverted comas after double-checking so I am now sure this was not a true quote I read and relayed here. I shouldn’t have posted about it without checking; other things were said but not the ones I quoted. That being said, I find it unfair to say that I am used to spreading false info about players, this is not true. I’ve had my issues with some other posters, as all of us, and being referred to as a “thing” was done in the past and I’ve seen it again and that’s not fair. Yes I made a mistake to try to cast light on this non-event, and I apologize for it. If I had known the info would circulate like that, be sure I wouldn’t have done it at all. I wonder what sort of journalists can publish that on a general news website in Romania without knowing what happened or not.
At first, I thought I would stay on TF only for TT, but I will consider other options.
