I think it will be a lot softer on the joints then all the cement courts. Technically great players will prevail I have seen them.

As badly as Martina Navratilova would've wanted it back in the day. Her record on the surface was insane. Tennis needs more surface variety.

Don't care. If the players want it, I'm fine with that.

I loved watching matches on carpet, both in person and on TV.

Yes, an opinion with nothing to back it up has no substance to it.

Re: How badly do you want Carpet courts to come back?

A real reason to be for carpet is that it adds variety to the game.

I believe that I read that at least one male player said it's more dangerous than hard courts, something I'd like to see proof for.

Some think it's safer because it's more cushioned.

People need facts in order to have a worthwhile opinion. The only clear fact we have at the moment is that it adds variety to the game. Its removal is more likely to be due to the ATP's decision to slow tennis and make the serve less dominant than it is something to do with the injury rate.

Plus, even if it's true that it's more risky for ATP play that doesn't mean it's more risky for WTA play. I don't think any surface is as harmful to the body as hard court based on the simple logic that the body wasn't designed to do athletics on hard surfaces. I don't remember Navratilova or other players who played heavily on carpet having injury problems due to the surface.

Why did they go away in the first place?

I cheer on scrubs.

Attempt to slow down the courts and create more rallies.

Re: How badly do you want Carpet courts to come back?

Yes, the guy running the ATP specifically said he favored homogenization and that there was a purposeful decision to try to make tournaments play like a mid-paced hard surface.
