Luxembourg F: Gauff/McNally d. Christian/Guarachi (2) 6-2 6-2

Such a good week for them as a duo.
They were really troubled in their first match and struggled to finish that one and then went down 0-4 in their QF, but ever since then it was smooth sailing for both of them.
So after all it was still worthwhile for Coco to come here. She will leave her European trip with a positive feeling. That loss in Singles was a hard comedown, but with the right mindset that can only help her grow as well.
Shame for Caty to run into Jelena right away, but at least her Doubles results were great in Europe.

Hilarious moment at the ceremony. Legal drinking age in Luxembourg is 16, so Caty received 3 liters of sparkling wine and Coco was given a bottle of grape juice.
stano00 and Hovercorn like this.

Rest in Peace Bally!

So easy Congrats, Coco/Caty !

They were unseeded and beat the #4, #1 and #2 seeds (and all in 2 sets).

Coco/Caty are a great team and should fight for Grand Slam trophies in the future.

Congrats to them both! They make a great team. I'm sure the doubles trophy eases the disappointment of the loss of their first-round single. Keep it up, girls! There's more to come!.

After watching their 4 matches in the tournament, I really get a feeling that McNally gets a more complete game, but she can be emotional and negative at crucial moment and she really made more wrong decisions on court... But few months ago it was her carried Gauff in Washington. I hope she would learn faster or the gap between her and Gauff might be big next year.

Great way for Coco to cap off the season.

"Sometimes we've wondered if Martina actually knew what she was saying. Maybe it was her age or inexperience or something got lost in the translation. But I don't know. She comes out with something astounding and then just stares at you like, 'What did I say?' But then she'll have that glint in her eye."

Gauff and McNally win second doubles title 2019

https://www.tennis.com/pro-game/2019...uarachi/85551/

On Saturday, Coco Gauff and Caty McNally picked up their second title of 2019 with a 6-2, 6-2 dismissal of Kaitlyn Christian and Alexa Guarachi in Luxembourg. The youngsters improve to 12-2 together on the pro tour.

What's most striking about Team McCoco, aside from their obvious youth, is their confidence and composure. They act like they belong, and more importantly, they play to win. There's no signs of junior tennis when they're on court—meaning moon balls, defensive strategies, long baseline rallies or shaky serving. Though just 17 (McNally) and 15 years old (Gauff), they only let out a silly giggle or a smile here and there. For the most part, they remain deadly serious, attack relentlessly, serve big and are not afraid of the net whatsoever.

On their first set point, Gauff fired her second straight return right at Gaurachi's body, forcing an error to seal it. They showed some signs of shakiness when McNally attempted to serve out the match, but recovered to seal the crown on match point No. 5 in the next game, topped off with a chest bump and a synchronized hand signal to the camera.

Gauff was the only player in the trophy ceremony not awarded champagne since the drinking age in France is 16, so she was given grape juice instead.

"I hope this is just the second of many WTA title," McNally said.

Gaurachi and Christian are doubles specialists, boasting rankings of No. 65 and No. 73 respectively. Gaurachi was seeking her second WTA doubles title, and Christian her first. McNally and Gauff dismissed them 6-2, 6-3 last week in Linz on their way to the semifinals, where they dropped a tight deciding tiebreaker. Luxembourg marked the young American duo's fifth-ever tournament together, and fourth at the WTA level.

Together for the first time, they won the junior US Open in 2018, which earned them a wild card into the 2019 US Open, where they reached the round of 16. This week was their second WTA final, after thrilling local crowds to win the Citi Open in Washington, D.C.

Well done to Cori/Caty!

Their 2nd WTA doubles titles right? Absolutely incredible. Congrats and they deserved for their effort.

Great to see such a result. However:

Quote:
On their first set point, Gauff fired her second straight return right at Gaurachi's body, forcing an error to seal it.

Gaurachi and Christian are doubles specialists, boasting rankings of No. 65 and No. 73 respectively. Gaurachi was seeking her second WTA doubles title, and Christian her first.
It's spelt GUARACHI. Please get it right.

What has the drinking age in France got to do with Luxembourg? Does the author not realise that they are two different countries?

While all the hype has been about Gauff in these last couple of weeks, McNally has cemented her position as possibly the best young doubles player in the world (although she hasn't yet come up against Maja Chwalinska - and that would be a sight to see!). You only have to look at her amazing record over the last three years to appreciate that her talents are not restricted to singles.

2016

Grade A Campeonato Internacional Juvenil de Tenis de Porto Alegre - she and Natasha Subhash lost the doubles final to Panna Udvardy and Dayana Yastremska

Wimbledon - she and Mariam Bolkvadze lost the doubles final to Usue Arconada and Claire Liu

Grade A Abierto Juvenil Mexicano - she and Subhash won the final against Liu and Malene Helgo

2017

Australian Open - she and Subhash lost their semifinal in a match tie-break (7-10) to eventual winners Bianca Andreescu and Carson Branstine

Grade A 58th Trofeo Bonfiglio - Campionati Internazionali d'Italia Juniores - she and Whitney Osuigwe beat Cho I-hsuan and Ayumi Miyamoto in the final

Wimbledon - she and Osuigwe lost to Olga Danilovic and Kaja Juvan in the final

2018

Grade A 59th Trofeo Bonfiglio - Campionati Internazionali d'Italia Juniores - she and Leonie Kung lost the final to Yuki Naito and Naho Sato

French Open - she got her revenge on the Japanese pair when she and Iga Swiatek beat them in the final. She also made the singles final, losing to Gauff in three sets after beating Swiatek in the semi-finals.

Wimbledon - third doubles final in a row, and yet again she finished runner-up. She and Osuigwe lost to Wang Xinyu and Wang Xiyu.

US Open - she and Gauff beat Hailey Baptiste and Dalayna Hewitt in the final.
