Aw, I used to be a fan back in the day. All the best to her.

"Sometimes we've wondered if Martina actually knew what she was saying. Maybe it was her age or inexperience or something got lost in the translation. But I don't know. She comes out with something astounding and then just stares at you like, 'What did I say?' But then she'll have that glint in her eye."

Making the announcement before Grönefeld is doing that. However, I really like Grönefeld, her career was a total rollercoaster. Hopefully she will have a last good tournament in Singapur

Right?? I wonder if she'll get in trouble for spilling the beans.

Also funny that she's going for one of the only doubles players who is older than Groenefeld in Kveta Peschke. Wonder what this means for the Peschke/Melichar partnership... is Nicole focusing on her coaching career or has she got a different partner?

Anyway, all the best for ALG in her final tournaments. She's had a very decent career in both singles and doubles!

ALG
She has had a great final season then. Maybe she is pregnant already.
But partnering Peschke? Idk if that is a smart move. I would have liked to see her play with Xenia again instead.

Re: GROENEFELD to retire after WTA Finals

This makes me wonder, has Peschke EVER considered retirement?

Navratilova retired at 50 and made slam QFs at 49. Maybe Peschke can try to achieve something similar in 5-6 years?

Re: GROENEFELD to retire after WTA Finals

Just saw she is ranked 12th, which feels a bit overranked. A bit suprising then, because she could have played the Olympics with a bit of luck? Maybe she is pregnant?

Peschke said she's gonna play at least one more year.

Quite surprised by this, she’s had one of her best seasons in recent memory!

Also very surprised that Demi is playing with Kveta next - great pick up for Kveta, would love to see her have another deep run at a slam next year. She had a great partnership with Melichar.

Wonder who Nicole plays with next year?

"Religion has actually convinced people that there is an invisible man living in the sky who watches everything you do, every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a special list of ten things he does not want you to do. Any if you do any of these ten things, he has a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever 'til the end of time!

But he loves you."

Demi can do better than play with a 44 year old but they'll make a decent team anyway.

Re: GROENEFELD to retire after WTA Finals

Grönefeld married this year and I‘m very happy that after everything she‘s been through with that creep of a coach Font de Mora she can be happy with a man. A shame she could never fulfill the potential shown early in her singles career. She also got way fitter towards the very end of her career (a long-term consequence of Font de Mora‘s torture as well) and I think she perhaps needed that level of fitness earlier on.

Not too surprised about this news, but then non-Germans would probably be.

Thank you for all these moments over the last years! Supported you until your final point!

Re: GROENEFELD to retire after WTA Finals

I'd be shocked if Melichar didn't pair up with an American next season. Maybe BMS or King, which would be a boon for either as Melichar has the best chance to get an automatic berth for Tokyo.

It's so frustrating that that sociopath never got what was coming to him. Wasn't he in a relationship with Shaughnessy when she was underage too?
